Week 22 reveals where Kansas City agrees… and where it doesn’t
Kansas City never lacks opinions — and this week’s SB Nation Reacts poll proves it once again.
In the latest fan survey, some results felt predictable. Others? Quietly explosive.
Across the league, the most plugged-in fans were asked to weigh in on the Chiefs’ biggest individual honors from the 2025 season — and while unity showed up in one category, another award exposed a clear divide inside Chiefs Kingdom.
🏆 Team MVP: fans stand with the Chiefs
On the question of Derrick Thomas Team MVP, fans overwhelmingly aligned with the official team vote.
The answer?
Patrick Mahomes.
Despite an up-and-down season and lingering injury concerns, Mahomes still separated himself from the rest — even beating out an “Other” category that included heavyweights like Travis Kelce and Chris Jones.
There was also quiet support for Creed Humphrey, especially after he stood alone as Kansas City’s only AP All-Pro selection in 2025. But in the end, fans agreed: when everything felt unstable, Mahomes was still the standard.
⚡ Rookie of the Year: this is where fans pushed back
Things got far more complicated when the conversation turned to the Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year award.
The team selected defensive end Ashton Gillotte — but fans weren’t convinced.
In the poll, Chiefs supporters favored cornerback Nohl Williams, believing his impact and consistency made the stronger case over the full season.
Perhaps most surprising of all?
Left tackle Josh Simmons earned more fan votes than Gillotte — despite starting just eight games in 2025.
It was a result that speaks volumes about how fans measure value: not by labels or official selections, but by moments that felt meaningful when the team needed them most.
🔍 What this really says about Chiefs Kingdom
This wasn’t just a poll.
It was a snapshot of how fans processed a season filled with frustration, flashes of brilliance, and lingering “what ifs.” Agreement around Mahomes felt emotional — almost instinctive. Disagreement over the rookie honor? That felt personal.
And as the offseason unfolds, one thing is clear:
Chiefs fans are watching closely — and they’re not afraid to challenge the narrative.
