George Stephanopoulos’ family has just welcomed another lovable — and fluffy — addition, marking their second new family member of the year.
Just five months after George and his wife, Ali Wentworth, adopted their golden retriever, Fig, the couple has opened their home once again, this time to a rescued dachshund puppy named Stanley. The Good Morning America anchor proudly introduced the tiny newcomer during the Monday, December 8, edition of the morning show.
“This is Stanley Stephanopoulos. He just came back from Nashville,” George said with a smile as the puppy sat comfortably on the GMA desk. “My daughter Harper brought him back on Saturday. There’s an incredible organization in Nashville called Wags and Walks. They rescue dogs from across the South, and Harper met Stanley on Saturday before flying him home the following day. Nobody in our house got much sleep last night, but he’s very calm now and such a sweet little dog.”
Robin Roberts pointed out that George and his family — including daughters Elliott, 23, and Harper, 20 — have always had a special place in their hearts for dachshunds. Reflecting on their family’s recent loss, George shared that their beloved dachshund Daisy had passed away only a few months earlier after enjoying a long and happy life.
George also revealed why Stanley was able to accompany him to the studio. Since the puppy had not yet met Fig, the family decided not to introduce them at home.
“We couldn’t bring Stanley into Fig’s territory,” he explained. “They’re going to meet after the show in neutral territory, and we’re all hoping they become great friends.”
Will Reeve couldn’t resist joking about the situation, laughing that Fig was probably watching the broadcast wondering who this new puppy was.
Robin Roberts also welcomed Stanley with a playful comment, telling the puppy he had truly “hit the jackpot” by joining the Stephanopoulos family. She joked that life was certainly much better than his days on the streets of Nashville.
Before ending the segment, George encouraged viewers to learn more about Wags and Walks and support the rescue organization’s work.
Stanley’s television debut quickly captured viewers’ hearts. Fans flooded Good Morning America’s Instagram page with affectionate messages, with many calling it the sweetest interview ever. Others congratulated the family, while many praised George for the care and love he already showed toward the tiny rescue pup.
Ali Wentworth also celebrated the newest arrival on Instagram by posting a heartwarming photo of Harper bringing Stanley home.
“Well, this happened!” she wrote humorously. “Slept two hours last night. My nightgown is covered in pee. I think George and I are not handling empty nesting very well. Stop us at adoption #8.”
The latest adoption comes after an emotional year for the family. George and Ali said goodbye to two longtime companions, Cooper in May and Daisy in October. Amid that heartbreak came moments of joy, first with the arrival of Fig during a live GMA appearance in July, and now with Stanley becoming the family’s newest four-legged member.
