First Lady Melania Trump has issued a $1 billion legal threat to Hunter Biden, accusing him of making “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory” statements linking her to Jeffrey Epstein.
Fox News Digital exclusively obtained the letter sent on August 6 by Melania’s litigation counsel, Alejandro Brito, to Hunter Biden and his attorney, Abbe Lowell. In it, Brito demanded that Biden immediately retract his remarks — made during a recent Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan YouTube interview — and issue a public apology, or face legal action seeking over $1 billion in damages.
“Failure to comply will leave Mrs. Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her,” Brito warned.
The Controversial Claim
In the interview, titled “Hunter Biden Returns”, Biden alleged:
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep.”
He further claimed that Jeffrey Epstein introduced the future First Lady to Donald Trump, sparking outrage from Melania’s legal team. Brito blasted the remarks as “extremely salacious” and noted the video had been widely shared by media outlets, journalists, and commentators with millions of followers, allegedly causing “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” to Mrs. Trump.
The Source Under Fire
According to Brito, Biden’s statements came from “serial fabulist” Michael Wolff, whose claims were previously published in The Daily Beast. That article, titled “Melania Trump ‘very involved’ in Epstein Scandal: Author”, was fully retracted after Melania’s lawyers challenged its accuracy.
Following the legal challenge, The Daily Beast deleted the piece, replaced it with an editor’s note apologizing “for any confusion or misunderstanding,” and changed the URL to read epstein-this-story-has-been-removed.
Carville’s Apology
Biden wasn’t the only one repeating the claim. Political strategist James Carville also apologized after including the allegation in his Politics War Room podcast. Opening his latest episode, Carville acknowledged receiving a letter from Melania’s lawyer, admitted the statements were removed from the episode, and issued a direct apology to the First Lady.
No Compliance from Biden
A source told Fox News Digital that Biden ignored the August 7 deadline for retracting his statements. Instead, the source alleged, Biden’s team leaked the legal letter to “a friendly reporter,” a move they say reflects concern about his “serious liability” in spreading “defamatory lies.”
Melania’s Position
An aide to the First Lady, Nick Clemens, stated:
“First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, Melania.”
Melania also posted a screenshot of Carville’s apology and a crossed-out image of the podcast episode titled “The Epstein connection: Trump & Melania” to her X (formerly Twitter) account — signaling she intends to keep challenging anyone who repeats the claims.
