2026 didn’t arrive with fireworks for Patrick Mahomes — it arrived with pain, patience, and a pair of crutches.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback rang in the New Year standing in a leg brace, leaning on crutches, yet smiling beside wife Brittany and their three children — Sterling, Bronze and Golden — as the family waved sparklers together in a quietly powerful moment shared on social media.
Just weeks earlier, Mahomes tore his ACL during the Chiefs’ crushing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, a defeat that officially ended their playoff hopes. Surgery followed on December 15, launching the toughest rehab journey of his career.
At 30, Mahomes now faces a race against time. ACL recoveries typically stretch nine months — leaving his return for the 2026 season opener in early September hanging in the balance.
Yet despite the heartbreak, teammates say the leader never left the building.
“He’s still helping guys, still leading,” offensive lineman Creed Humphrey revealed. “Even injured, he’s there talking to everyone. He’s been incredible.”
Mahomes himself hasn’t spoken much publicly — except for one raw post after the injury:
“It hurts. But now all I can do is trust in God and attack every single day.”
With a high draft pick looming and Travis Kelce’s future uncertain, the Chiefs are staring at a major rebuild. But if there’s one thing fans know… it’s never wise to count Patrick Mahomes out.
His comeback story has already begun. 🏈💪
