The NFL woke up to heartbreak this weekend — and the pain cut even deeper when one message surfaced.
Hollywood Brown, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, revealed he had spoken with his former teammate Rondale Moore just hours before Moore was found dead at the age of 25.
“Bro ain’t no way brotha you just messaged me few hours ago 😢,” Brown wrote on X, moments after the news broke.
A Conversation That Still Doesn’t Feel Real
Brown and Moore once shared a locker room with the Arizona Cardinals — but their bond went far beyond football. According to Brown, Moore had recently responded to one of his Instagram Stories earlier that same day.
The post wasn’t about fame or football.
It was about pain.
“Ppl really believe if you got money you don’t go through anything… that s— be really crazy to me,” Brown had written.
Moore replied.
And then — just hours later — he was gone.
“You Wasn’t Alone, Bro…”
In another post, Brown shared the private weight of what he’s now replaying in his mind.
“You wasn’t alone bro.. I told you I know how you feel.”
Later, over a screenshot of Moore’s final response to him, Brown added:
“The fact you just commented under this a few hours ago hurt even more 😢😢. You could of called me dawg.”
A Bond Forged Through Injuries and Silence
Brown also shared older messages between the two — including a heartfelt text he sent Moore back in August after Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury.
“I’m here if you ever need to talk bro… knowing you, you built for this don’t give up.”
Brown admitted those words were as much for himself as they were for Moore.
“Even when I would send these messages I would be talking to myself too… because I knew we both was dealing with injuries.”
What Authorities Have Confirmed
According to police in New Albany, Indiana — Moore’s hometown — his body was discovered on February 21 in a garage. Authorities said his death appears to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Floyd County coroner confirmed the death remains under investigation and that an autopsy has been scheduled.
Moore had signed with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2025 season and was considered a promising part of the team’s future.
Vikings, NFL Respond
The Vikings released a statement expressing deep sorrow and confirming they are providing counseling and emotional-support resources to players and staff.
“Our thoughts are with Rondale’s family and friends during this devastating time.”
A Final Goodbye
Brown ended his tribute with a throwback photo of the two on the field together.
“Get some peace 🕊️🤞🏿,” he wrote.
“Jesus Christ is and will always be the answer. Pray pray and pray some more.”
A Moment Bigger Than Football
Rondale Moore’s death has shaken the league — not just because of his age or talent, but because of the reminder behind it:
Pain doesn’t always look loud.
And messages sent can still go unanswered.
