“I’m Not Doing Anything Deliberately” — Anne Hegerty Addresses Two-Stone Weight Loss After Doctor’s Warning

Anne Hegerty has spoken candidly about a recent health check that followed an unexpected two-stone weight loss — revealing her doctor issued a warning and even suggested weight-loss injections, an option she has firmly decided not to pursue.

The 67-year-old, best known to viewers as The Governess on The Chase, returns to screens tonight on Beat the Chasers. But away from the studio lights, Anne says her wellbeing has been under careful review. The Chase's Anne Hegerty eyes acting career - Yahoo Movies UK

A warning — and a clear decision

Anne revealed she was recently told she is pre-diabetic, a condition that increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As part of that discussion, her doctor suggested weight-loss injections as a preventative option — but Anne was unconvinced.

“My doctor mentioned it and said I should think about it,” she explained. “But I’m only thinking about it. I think I’m okay — though I’ll bear it in mind.”

She was keen to stress that the advice was purely medical and not linked to appearance or pressure to slim down.Anne Hegerty

“I’m not doing anything deliberately”

What surprised Anne most was the weight loss itself. She insists it wasn’t planned, forced or driven by dieting.

“I’m not doing anything deliberately,” she said. “I just thought I should get a bit more active. I don’t walk much — and I really should.”

Rather than focusing on numbers, Anne says she’s now prioritising mobility and strength.
“I also need to do more stretches,” she admitted. “I’ve got no core strength — and that probably isn’t ideal.”

Lessons from the jungle

Anne has experienced weight loss before. During her 2018 appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, she shed around a stone — though doctors warned at the time it wouldn’t last. The Chase star Anne Hegerty's life off-camera: from love life to royal connections | HELLO!

“Everyone always puts it straight back on,” she recalled.

This time, however, the change feels different: slower, steadier, and rooted in everyday lifestyle adjustments rather than extreme circumstances.

Back where she belongs

Despite the health conversation, Anne remains sharp, composed and unmistakably in control behind the lectern. Fans can catch her tonight on Beat the Chasers at 9pm on ITV1, a reminder that while she’s listening carefully to her body, she has no intention of stepping back.

Honest, practical and refreshingly no-nonsense, Anne Hegerty is navigating health changes the same way she tackles quiz questions — calmly, thoughtfully, and entirely on her own terms. 💙
