Saturday night’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent has sparked one of the fiercest viewer backlashes of the series so far, after a shocking audition left many watching through their fingers — or switching off altogether.
Fresh from the launch of Series 19, audiences expected the usual mix of feel-good moments and jaw-dropping spectacle. Instead, they were confronted with an act that had social media erupting within minutes.
A performance that pushed past comfort
Duo Baron and Vesper took to the stage with an act that immediately divided opinion. As the routine escalated, chains appeared to pull harshly at Baron’s chest, creating scenes that many viewers described as painful — and deeply unsettling.
Inside the theatre, the crowd responded with loud cheers. On the judges’ desk, the reaction was very different.
Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were visibly uncomfortable, while KSI made his feelings clear almost immediately.
Shouting out repeatedly as the act continued, KSI eventually cut in and waved them off, bluntly stating he had “seen enough.”
Despite his objections, the roar of the audience seemed to sway the panel — and Simon ultimately voted to put Baron and Vesper through to the next round.
“I couldn’t even watch”
At home, viewers were far less forgiving.
Social media quickly filled with messages from fans who felt the show had crossed a serious line.
“I was so uncomfortable watching this,” one viewer wrote.
Another accused the programme of desperation, claiming it was “showing something deeply inappropriate” and even tagging Ofcom, warning complaints were inevitable.
“So dangerous,” one person posted. “There’s definitely going to be backlash for this.”
“Oh my god — I couldn’t even watch,” another admitted.
“Don’t call this entertainment,” said a fourth.
“That was horrifying. I’m completely with KSI,” added another.
But some called it ‘brilliant’
Not everyone agreed.
A vocal group of viewers praised the act’s boldness, defending it as a form of extreme performance art.
“That’s real talent,” one fan commented.
“I love acts that push boundaries,” another said.
“Shocking but brilliant,” one post read, while another simply declared: “THIS IS INCREDIBLE.”
A series already dividing the nation
With just a handful of episodes aired, Britain’s Got Talent has already proven it’s willing to court controversy — whether audiences want it or not.
