Katie Piper’s Acid Attack Orchestrator Could Walk Free: Parole Bid Sparks New Fears

Katie Piper’s attacker, the man who orchestrated the horrific acid attack that forever altered her life, is now seeking parole. Daniel Lynch, 50, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2009 for his sickening crime, is up for release after serving the minimum 16 years of his sentence.

Katie Piper (pictured) was aged 24 when Daniel Lynch plotted the attack in March 2008 following the breakdown of their relationship that left the d model and presenter with devastating burns and blind in one eyeIn 2008, Lynch plotted the brutal assault that left then-24-year-old Katie disfigured, blind in one eye, and with devastating burns to her face. At the time, the judge described the crime as “pure, calculated, and deliberate evil.” Lynch enlisted Stefan Sylvestre, a teenager at the time, to throw sulphuric acid at Katie’s face in Golders Green, north London, after their relationship broke down.

Now, after more than 16 years behind bars, Lynch’s case will be reviewed by the Parole Board. Although it is uncertain whether Katie herself will attend the hearing, it is expected that a statement detailing the lasting impact of the attack on her life will be submitted to the panel, which will determine whether Lynch poses a risk to the public.

Lynch (pictured), now 50, was jailed for life in 2009 for arranging the sickening assault that left the then 24-year-old model and presenter with devastating burns and blind in one eyeKatie, now 42, has spoken openly about the torment she endured following the attack, which required hundreds of surgeries and left her with life-changing injuries. In an emotional interview, she reflected on her recovery, recalling the excruciating pain she felt when the acid was thrown at her. “It was like burning in hell,” she said. “I’ve lost my future, my career, my spirit. A part of me died that will never come back.”

Despite these harrowing experiences, Katie has found the strength to rebuild her life. She has appeared in documentaries about her journey and even competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. Yet, in 2023, she expressed lingering fears: “Am I going to die in the next 10 years? The people who attacked me will be released. Will they kill me?”

Her book Still Beautiful recounts her painful physical transformation: “What was left of my face after the acid melted away my features was removed and unceremoniously dumped in a medical waste bin.”

As Lynch’s parole hearing approaches, Katie’s supporters and campaigners for justice are growing increasingly concerned about his release. This includes celebrities like Ricky Gervais, who in 2021 called for an immediate ban on the facility where Lynch’s crimes were plotted, calling the tests that continue to use animals “obsolete.”

Katie’s victim impact statement at trial was heart-wrenching. She said: “When the acid was thrown at me, it felt like I was burning in hell. It was an indescribable, torturous pain.”

However, the possibility of Lynch’s release remains a haunting reminder of her painful past. As Katie says: “I had to write the rule book for me. I’m not just a campaigner. I’m a survivor.”

The Parole Board’s decision will weigh the risks to public safety, but for Katie, this latest chapter may reopen old wounds.
