Nadiya Hussain, the celebrated Great British Bake Off winner, has opened up about a terrifying incident where she was rushed to hospital after suffering severe burnout while filming. The 41-year-old TV star shared how she felt “propped up” to continue working despite feeling unwell, and revealed she had “never been so unwell in my life” after being hospitalized in an ambulance.

The TV personality, who worked with the BBC for over a decade, revealed the shocking incident happened during the filming of her latest show. Speaking to Closer magazine, she explained, “During the last series, I got so sick we had to call an ambulance. I ended up in the hospital overnight. It was burnout – I’ve never been so unwell in my life.”
Despite her exhaustion, Nadiya claimed that there was no genuine support from the producers. She felt that she was simply “propped up” so she could continue working, with no real care given to her well-being. Nadiya also mentioned how, despite her grueling schedule, she had no choice but to keep going, relying on caffeine and chocolate just to push through.

“I didn’t drink caffeine before and didn’t even particularly like chocolate, but it became caffeine, chocolate, a bit of eye cream, another layer of lipstick, a spritz of the face, fresh air – and back onto set,” she admitted. “I learned to cope with it and to keep going, but there’s no one there for you when you crash.”
Nadiya’s latest attack on the BBC comes after she previously claimed that the network dropped her cookery show following her outspokenness regarding the lack of focus on recipes and the overemphasis on superficial elements like her lipstick color.
“There’s this idea that you’re taken care of in the TV industry, but it’s quite the opposite,” she said. “You’re propped up so you’re well enough to do your job. But when you crash, there’s no one there for you.”
The star also voiced how difficult it was to balance her career with her health. She opened up about her struggles with fibromyalgia, a condition causing chronic pain, which further contributed to her mental and physical exhaustion.
Nadiya’s comments come after a turbulent time for the star, including her decision to leave her TV career behind after raising concerns about how she was treated by producers and agents. She later tried a new role as a teaching assistant but was forced to quit due to her fragile health.
