Media personality and producer Ryan Seacrest has made a significant philanthropic contribution, donating $5 million to combat family homelessness in the United States. His donation will fund the construction of permanent housing for underserved families in major cities across the country.
The donation is part of the new initiative “Home with Hope” — a collaboration with national nonprofit Habitat for Humanity and local community organizations. The goal is to build or renovate at least 50 homes in regions with high homelessness rates, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and Houston.
“It’s not just about giving people a roof over their heads,” Seacrest said at the announcement event held at the Los Angeles Mission. “It’s about providing dignity, security, and a place where children can thrive. I’ve been fortunate in life, and now I want to give back in a way that truly transforms lives.”
A National Crisis That Needs Local Action
Recent statistics from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reveal that over 500,000 people experience homelessness in the U.S. on any given night, including tens of thousands of families with children. Family homelessness has significantly increased in states like California, making it a growing crisis that demands immediate attention.
Seacrest’s $5 million donation will help not only with construction costs but also provide essential support services, including job training, childcare, and financial counseling — services that research shows are critical to long-term stability.
“Giving someone a house is vital,” said Maria Chavez, national director of community partnerships at Habitat for Humanity. “But helping families develop the skills and confidence to stay there is what creates lasting change.”
A Personal Commitment to Giving Back
While Ryan Seacrest is best known for his work as the host of Live with Kelly and Ryan, American Idol, and as a producer behind several hit TV shows, he has long been committed to charitable causes. Over the years, Seacrest has supported numerous initiatives focused on children, education, and military families.
Local nonprofits that will benefit from the Home with Hope project include the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles and Families Forward in San Diego.
At the event, Seacrest shared a personal story that inspired his commitment: “I met a single mother named Tasha at a shelter last year,” he said. “She shared with me that her kids had to change schools six times in two years because they had no permanent place to live. That stuck with me. We can do better. We must do better.”
What’s Next for the “Home with Hope” Initiative
Construction is set to begin this summer, with the first homes expected to be ready for families by early 2027. Seacrest’s team also plans to offer volunteer opportunities for fans and community members, corporate matching programs, and educational campaigns aimed at raising awareness about homelessness and housing insecurity.
“Everyone deserves a place to call home,” Seacrest emphasized. “If we all do our part — even just a little — we can turn hope into reality.”
