Alex, an eight-year US Air Force veteran, had just moved into a new home with his wife Libby and their two young children – a two-and-a-half-year-old and seven-month-old twins. The family is now grappling with the devastating loss of the “best person” Libby had ever known.

In a poignant tribute, Libby shared her heartbreak: “My heart is broken for our three kids who will grow up never knowing him, the man he was, and the love he had for them,” she wrote. “They won’t see how goofy and funny he was, or feel the deep love he showed for all of us.”

Libby continued, “The loss still doesn’t feel real. I keep thinking I’ll get a text from him saying ‘Sorry honey, didn’t mean to scare you’ — but now, I have to live without him.”

The plane crash, which occurred during Operation Epic Fury, also claimed the lives of five other military personnel, including Tyler Simmons, a 28-year-old airman from Ohio. Tyler’s mother, Cheryl Simmons, recalled their last conversation before his death: “He told me they had been shot at, but he was okay.”
