In an emotional interview with Today, Savannah Guthrie opens up about the terrifying moment she learned that her mother, Nancy Guthrie, had gone missing. The family’s nightmare began on February 1, when Savannah’s sister called in a panic, confirming that Nancy was nowhere to be found.
Savannah recalled the unsettling details: “She said, ‘She’s gone,’ and I – I’m in a panic. I’m like, call 911. She’s like, ‘I did. We’ve called them. They’re here.’” The confusion deepened when Savannah arrived at her mother’s home and found the back doors “propped open,” raising alarm bells that something was seriously wrong.
“Something isn’t right here,” Savannah continued, revealing that her mother’s phone and purse were left behind, with blood found on the doorstep and a broken ring camera. “There’s no way she could have wandered off. My mom was in terrible pain, couldn’t walk far, let alone disappear,” Savannah said, referencing her mother’s severe back issues.
As the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance unfolds, a masked man was caught on a camera outside her home in the early hours of the morning. “It’s absolutely terrifying,” Savannah confessed. “I can’t imagine that man was the one she saw standing over her bed. It’s too much to comprehend.”
The distraught family, feeling helpless and in agony, is desperately searching for answers. Savannah, holding onto hope, said, “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony, we are in agony. But she needs to come home now.”
Savannah’s emotional first interview since her mother’s disappearance sheds light on the ongoing pain the family is enduring. With the investigation still ongoing, the family has offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to Nancy’s safe return.
“I wake up every night imagining her terror. It’s unbearable, but I cannot stop thinking about it,” Savannah admitted, her voice trembling with emotion. “We won’t stop until she comes home.”
