In a surprising confession, Ade Edmondson, 69, and his co-star Zoe Wanamaker, 76, have opened up about a special agreement they made regarding the Bergerac reboot. The two actors, who play the romantic couple Nigel Morton and Charlie Hungerford, revealed that they decided not to film any intimate scenes together despite the romantic nature of their roles.

Ade Edmondson, joining the cast for the second season of this hit series, said the decision to avoid bedroom scenes was a mutual one. “We both felt it wasn’t necessary to portray intimacy at our age,” Ade shared, discussing their choice to simply hold hands in bed instead. The move was so well-received that even the director exclaimed, “Oh, how sweet!”
As for their partnership, Ade also joked about Zoe’s quirky personality, revealing, “I’m sure Zoe won’t mind me saying she’s as crazy as a box of frogs!” He continued, “Working with the best is always a rewarding experience. I’ve learned so much from her.”
The reboot of Bergerac sees a new detective, played by Damien Molony, stepping into the iconic role previously held by John Nettles, while the beloved characters return to the screen in 2025. Fans can expect a thrilling new storyline as the detective embarks on a hesitant romance while investigating a mysterious wedding murder.
The Bergerac reboot is set to premiere Thursday on U&Drama, and with these revelations, viewers can’t help but wonder how this unique approach will impact the series’ success. Will other older actors follow suit, or does age make on-screen romance even more meaningful?
