In an unexpected slip-up on the Today show, Craig Melvin accidentally spilled the beans about his colleague Jenna Bush Hager’s upcoming role in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The news was a surprise to fans, as it was never officially announced before.
During a segment discussing the buzz around the highly anticipated sequel, Melvin casually revealed, “You know how I can tell this movie’s going to be good? JBH is in it.” The camera immediately cut to Jenna, whose jaw dropped in shock at the revelation. “I don’t know that you were supposed to drop that bomb,” she said, while co-host Savannah Guthrie playfully chimed in, “This is why you cannot tell Craig anything!”
Melvin, looking caught off guard, tried to play it cool, claiming that the casting was “common knowledge,” but Guthrie swiftly corrected him, shaking her head in disbelief. “No, Craig, no,” she said with a laugh.
The details of Jenna’s role in the sequel remain a mystery, but it’s believed to be a brief cameo, potentially as herself, likely set in the Today show’s environment. Fans were quick to recall that last October, Jenna dressed as Vogue’s Anna Wintour for Halloween, with Savannah going as Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep in the original film, which may have been a subtle hint at her involvement.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. New cast members include Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, and B.J. Novak. The sequel is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
Despite the lighthearted moment, the slip-up made for an awkward yet entertaining exchange on the Today show, which continued its usual programming following Guthrie’s emotional return after her mother’s disappearance in Arizona.
