Binky Felstead, the Made in Chelsea star, has been publicly called out by a bakery owner after allegedly asking for a free cake for her son Wilder’s third birthday in exchange for a post on Instagram. 😱
Reshmi Bennett, 42, the owner of the luxury cake business Anges de Sucre in London, didn’t hold back, sharing screenshots of her communication with Binky’s team. The request was for a “gifted” yellow train cake, with the condition that Binky would post about it on Instagram. 🍰💥
But things didn’t stop there. Reshmi even went as far as to create a spoof GoFundMe page, humorously asking for £1.4 million – a reference to Binky’s 1.4 million Instagram followers. Reshmi shared this post on Instagram, leaving the public and businesses stunned by the freebie request from a celebrity.
While Binky and her team defended the request as a standard “collaboration” offer, Reshmi made it clear that “exposure” was not an acceptable form of payment, and expressed disappointment that Binky, with her wealth and social media power, didn’t offer to pay for the cake. 
Binky’s team responded, explaining that this was a standard “contra” request for a collaboration, and they emphasized that Binky’s Instagram content, especially posts with her children, tends to attract significant engagement, which could benefit businesses.
However, Reshmi wasn’t convinced and made it clear that her bakery could not accept exposure as payment. Binky’s team apologized, stating that they didn’t intend to “grab a free cake,” but the damage was done, with the incident sparking online debates.
Binky’s case isn’t the first of its kind. In 2023, actress Catherine Tyldesley was embroiled in controversy after her PR team asked for a free birthday cake in exchange for social media exposure. The bakery, Three Little Birds Bakery, rejected the offer, stating that their staff couldn’t survive on “exposure” alone.
Following this, Reshmi continued to express her disappointment and created a humorous “collaboration” appeal, suggesting that if every one of Binky’s 1.4 million followers donated £1, they could create the most amazing yellow train cake while keeping their energy supplier happy.
Will Binky pay for the cake, or will she continue with “exposure” as payment? Only time will tell.
