Cher Lloyd has confirmed the devastating news that her father, Darren, has passed away. The X Factor star, who rose to fame as a teenager on the 2010 series of the show, shared a deeply emotional post on Instagram on Wednesday.
In her post, Cher, 32, posted a screenshot of a heartfelt text exchange between her and her dad. The text from Cher read, “I love you dad. More than you’ll ever know,” to which Darren replied, “I know you do. And I love you more and more each day see you tomorrow.”

Cher captioned the photo with an emotional tribute: “Life will never be the same again. I’ve never felt pain like this. My Dad, I love you. Goodnight 10.03.73 – 11.04.26.”

This marks a deeply sorrowful moment for Cher, who has been vocal about her father’s health struggles in the past. In 2020, she revealed that Darren was seriously unwell and hospitalized, which had caused her a great deal of distress, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown.
At that time, Cher told fans: “I’m sorry I’ve been quiet on here – I find it difficult to share my personal life at the best of times, but I feel I need to let you know what’s going on. My dad has been seriously unwell and is in hospital.”
She went on to express how difficult it was for her not to be with her family and support them during that time. “We can’t be with dad, but I’m so grateful to the doctors and nurses for looking after him. This is such a scary time for everyone. I hope you are keeping safe.”
Cher had previously mentioned how waiting for her dad to recover had been the hardest part of the lockdown period.
The Swagger Jagger singer has slowly made her return to music with the release of her single “Green Light” in April 2025. Cher, who initially caught the nation’s attention on The X Factor at 16, went on to release her debut album Sticks and Stones in 2011, featuring the hit single “Swagger Jagger.”
Over the years, Cher has made her mark as an artist, with her second album Sorry I’m Late released in 2014, which reached No. 21 on the UK Albums Chart.
After parting ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music in 2017, Cher voiced her frustrations about the control she felt from the label, stating that she couldn’t continue under those conditions. Her single “Head Down,” released in January 2025, appears to take aim at Cowell, with lyrics such as “You sold me the dream, I was just seventeen, chewed me up, spit me out.”
In 2018, Cher married her long-time partner, Craig Monk, and the couple welcomed their first daughter, Delilah-Rae, in May of that year. Their second daughter, Eliza Violet, was born in 2023.
