Sheinelle Jones Reveals How Her Late Husband Inspired Her to Finish New Book: A Heartfelt Legacy for Her Kids

Sheinelle Jones, co-host of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, has opened up about the emotional journey behind completing her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom From Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans, which is now available everywhere. The inspiration to finish the project came from her late husband, Uche Ojeh, who passed away from brain cancer in May 2025.

In an exclusive interview, Sheinelle shared how, despite his aggressive diagnosis, her husband pushed her to complete the book, even when she felt overwhelmed. “He would gently remind me when a deadline was approaching,” Sheinelle recalled. “Despite everything we were dealing with, he seemed more passionate than I was about making it happen.”

The book, which arrived nearly a year after Ojeh’s passing, is a reflection of Sheinelle’s love for motherhood and her desire to leave a meaningful legacy for her children. “It caused me to ask, ‘What kind of legacy do I want to build?’ and ‘What do I want my children to know of me?'” she explained.

Through Mom’s Eyes features interviews with mothers of famous figures like Lady Gaga, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Steph Curry, Venus and Serena Williams, and many others. Sheinelle wanted to explore the wisdom these moms had to offer, asking them, “What did you do right? What did you do wrong? Is there anything you would have done differently?” The book seeks to empower women, whether they are mothers, aunts, teachers, or caregivers, and celebrate their strength.

As Sheinelle reflects on her own family, she shares a deeply personal side of herself. She has three children: son Kayin, 16, and twins Uche and Clara, 14. She hopes Through Mom’s Eyes will serve as a resource for parents navigating the challenges of raising children, something she wishes she had when she first became a mother.

“I hope people can start to have these conversations about how it’s hard, or how it’s isolating,” Sheinelle said. “It’s community.” She hopes her book can provide support to others in similar journeys.

The heartfelt message of her new book serves as both a tribute to her late husband and a guide for future generations. Through Mom’s Eyes offers a powerful reminder of the importance of family, love, and the lessons that mothers pass down to their children.
