Is Rio Ferdinand saying goodbye to the UK for good? The former Manchester United legend has just placed his luxurious £10.5 million mansion on the market, fueling speculation that his move to Dubai is permanent.
After relocating his family to the tax-free emirate last August, Ferdinand has been outspoken about the UK’s tax system and his desire for a “new journey” with his wife, influencer Kate, and their children.

The ex-England defender has made it clear that life in Dubai suits him, revealing that his family feels “valued” and “happy” in the UAE. Ferdinand’s lavish seven-bedroom mansion, situated in the exclusive Farnborough Park, Kent, spans a massive 12,500 sq ft and is set in 20 acres of stunning landscaped grounds. The home, which was purchased for £2.7 million in 2008, could now fetch nearly £8 million in profit if sold at its asking price.

But it’s not just the sale of his property that has raised eyebrows. Ferdinand has been openly critical of the UK’s high taxes, especially given the country’s public service struggles. On LBC Radio in December, he stated that the UK’s deteriorating services have made him question whether it’s worth paying the high taxes.
“Health service, for example, is falling apart, and I wonder if we’re really getting the value for what we pay in taxes,” Ferdinand said. “When things aren’t working, I think it’s a big question.”
Life in Dubai is a new chapter for Ferdinand and his family. The former footballer, who now resides in a £7 million mansion in the Al Barari neighbourhood, has praised the safety, lifestyle, and weather in Dubai.
Ferdinand, who has invested in the fast-growing Koora Break app and launched a youth initiative with Qatar Airways, has also embraced business opportunities in the Middle East, a region he believes is “growing exponentially.”
But will his move to Dubai be permanent? His wife Kate, who found fame on The Only Way Is Essex, admitted she misses the UK, especially her older children, Lorenz and Tate, who remain in England.
In an emotional podcast interview, Kate confessed, “I love Dubai, but I miss home. I miss the big boys and sometimes I just get upset.”
With their roots firmly planted in Dubai, it seems Ferdinand and his family may be closing the door on the UK for good – but only time will tell.
