Coleen Nolan Opens Up About Heartbreaking Care Home Decision: “We Cry Every Night”

In a raw and emotional confession, Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has shared the agonizing decision she and her siblings were forced to make – placing their beloved mother Maureen into a care home. The decision, which still haunts her, was the most difficult thing they’ve ever had to do, and the backlash they faced from cruel trolls made it even harder to bear.

Maureen, who battled dementia for five years before passing away in 2007, reached a point where it became too dangerous for her to live alone. Coleen and her siblings were left with no choice but to make the heartbreaking decision to put her in a care home. But as the Loose Women panel discussed “care home guilt” this week, Coleen revealed the emotional toll it took on her and her family, admitting, “We cry every night.”

‘The Hardest Decision’
Speaking candidly with Ruth Langsford, Judi Love, and Janet Street-Porter, Coleen explained that caring for her mum had become increasingly difficult. She recalled the terrifying incidents, such as Maureen leaving electric kettles on gas hobs without realizing, or wandering in the middle of the night, disoriented and confused. “We were doing the best we could,” Coleen said, revealing how each sibling took turns caring for Maureen, but the situation had become too dangerous.Coleen Nolan on Loose Women

“It was just getting more and more difficult. She needed constant care, and we had our own families, jobs, and responsibilities. It felt impossible,” Coleen explained, her voice breaking as she remembered those intense, emotional moments.

A Heartbreaking Choice
Coleen also shared that, despite the family’s efforts to find the best care facility for her mum, the decision was still an incredibly painful one. After touring a modern, beautiful home that seemed perfect for Maureen, Coleen admitted that her mum hated it. In the end, Maureen chose a different care home that the family had initially rejected, but they respected her wishes, despite her lack of understanding of what was happening.Coleen Nolan on Loose WomenColeen opened up about her ‘regret’ on Loose Women (Credit: ITV)

The Relentless Guilt
But the backlash from the public only made the situation worse. “The amount of trolling we received was vile,” Coleen said, her emotions raw. She revealed that some people had questioned how her family could “live with themselves” after sending their mother to a care home. “I don’t sleep at night. None of us do. We cry every night because we had to make this decision,” she confessed, reflecting on the guilt that still weighs heavily on her.

Despite the cruelty, Coleen remains steadfast in her belief that the decision was made out of love and necessity, even though it was far from easy. “We did the best we could. We tried to give her as much love as possible. But it just wasn’t safe anymore.”Nolan sisters smilingThe sisters put their beloved mum in a home (Credit: SplashNews.com)

For Coleen and her siblings, the journey of caring for their mother has been an emotional rollercoaster, filled with difficult choices and overwhelming guilt. But through it all, one thing is clear – they did what they thought was best, and that’s something no troll or online critic can take away.

Final Thoughts
In a world where social media often amplifies the worst in people, Coleen’s heart-wrenching admission serves as a reminder of the difficult decisions many families face when it comes to caring for loved ones. It’s easy to judge from the outside, but for those who are in the midst of it, the pain and guilt are all too real.
