Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos marked their monumental 30th wedding anniversary on May 1, and what better way to celebrate than with a special episode of LIVE! The couple shared their joy with fans as they reflected on their amazing journey together.
“Today is our 30th wedding anniversary,” Mark exclaimed. “30 years. We did it!”
Kelly then quipped, “A high-five? The 30th is the high-five anniversary!” Mark reminisced about their unlikely romance, “Two kids meet on a soap opera…” to which Kelly responded, “It was the smartest, best decision I ever made in my life.”
Mark, who never expected to be married, admitted, “It was the most ludicrous idea until you asked, and then I was like, ‘Hmmm, okay!’”
The couple tied the knot in 1996 after meeting on the set of All My Children. They eloped to Las Vegas just a year after meeting, and have since welcomed three children: Michael, Lola, and Joaquin.
To celebrate, HELLO! takes a look back at Kelly and Mark’s love story through their stunning then-and-now photos!
From their early days on All My Children, where Kelly played Hayley Vaughan and Mark portrayed her on-screen love interest Mateo Santos, to their whirlwind romance and marriage, their journey has been nothing short of unforgettable.
Mark shared how their proposal was less than traditional, joking, “It was more of an idea. You were like, ‘We have the day off tomorrow, should we get married tomorrow?’” Kelly confirmed, “You said, ‘Ask me when you’re serious.’ And I said, ‘I’m dead serious!’”
In fact, their wedding cost just $179, including airfare—an unbelievably sweet detail shared by Kelly in 2022. And as for Kelly’s wedding dress? She still wears it to this day, often repurposing it as a beach cover-up.
Their three children have also blossomed: Michael is working behind the scenes on Bravo’s The Real Housewives, Joaquin is set to star in Hulu’s upcoming pilot Foster Dade, and Lola is pursuing a career in music in London.
Despite their busy careers, Kelly and Mark’s chemistry on LIVE! is undeniable. In 2023, Mark joined LIVE! full-time after Ryan Seacrest’s departure, despite initially being hesitant to work with Kelly on screen.
Kelly previously admitted that Mark was initially against the idea of hosting together, saying, “I thought it was a bad idea too.” But now, their candid and unfiltered on-screen chemistry has won over the audience, with Kelly adding, “We’ve been together for 31 years and we’re not afraid to express ourselves publicly.”
