Sarah Cawood Opens Up About Cancer’s Devastating Impact on Her Intimacy with Husband: ‘That Part of My Life Is Gone’

TV personality Sarah Cawood, 53, has shared her heartbreaking experience of how her brutal cancer treatment permanently altered her libido, leaving her feeling immense sadness over the loss of intimacy with her husband, Andy Merry.

In an emotional interview, Sarah opened up about the struggle of coping with not only breast cancer but also the drastic impact it has had on her relationship. “That part of my life is now gone, and it makes me feel incredibly sad,” she said, reflecting on how cancer has deeply affected her and Andy, with whom she shares two children, son Hunter, 13, and daughter Autumn, 12.

The star, known for her role as a TV presenter, was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in August 2022, following a routine mammogram. After undergoing a lumpectomy, radiation therapy, and long-term hormone treatment, Sarah now finds herself cancer-free. Yet, the emotional scars remain.

“I had to stop my Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) because of the cancer treatment, and my libido completely disappeared overnight,” Sarah revealed. “It can feel like everyone else is living their best life in terms of intimacy, but I’m left feeling like I’ve lost something huge. It’s heartbreaking.”

Sarah, who married TV producer Andy in 2012, admitted that the physical and emotional toll of cancer had triggered complications like vaginal atrophy, which made intimacy painful. “It feels like there’s something blocking any sort of penetration, and it hurts like hell. That just adds to the sadness.”

But despite the challenges, Sarah and Andy continue to maintain an open dialogue about their struggles. “It’s a massive loss for both of us, but we make sure to talk about it openly. You can’t just sweep these things under the rug.”

In her typical candid fashion, Sarah posted a vulnerable video online, discussing her ongoing concerns as a cancer survivor. “I feel tired… Maybe it’s back. What if that lump means it’s returned?” she confessed in the video, sharing the anxiety that continues to haunt her every day.

Though she is cancer-free, the fear of recurrence remains an ever-present worry. “The fear never leaves. It’s always there, lurking. I’m trying to live a healthy life and keep my mind in a positive place, but those thoughts keep creeping in,” she admitted, revealing that she still undergoes regular check-ups to ease her anxiety.

“I’ve got you,” Sarah said to others facing similar fears. “If you’re dealing with cancer or just worried, know that you’re not alone.”

Her message is clear: Early detection is critical, and no one should ignore anything that doesn’t feel right. She urges everyone to trust their instincts and seek medical advice, even if it means facing difficult news.

The emotional video, along with Sarah’s powerful message, resonates with many cancer survivors, inspiring strength, resilience, and the courage to continue moving forward, no matter how difficult the journey may seem.
