Chloe Madeley has been hit with a brutal attack from her ex-husband James Haskell’s mother, Susie Haskell, as the former rugby star made his debut on Celebs Go Dating.
Susie made a surprise appearance during James’s time on the show, and it didn’t take long for her to voice her strong opinions about her ex-daughter-in-law, Chloe. James, 41, who split from Chloe in 2023 after five years of marriage, seemed uneasy about what his mother might say during the conversation.
“I am dreading what’s going to come out of her mouth,” James admitted on camera. “Mum is an absolute loose cannon at the best of times. As long as she does not upset my ex, I’ll be okay.”
But it wasn’t long before Susie openly criticized Chloe, with James looking visibly uncomfortable. As the group discussed James’s previous relationships, Susie didn’t hold back.
“I’m not sure where he’s gone wrong because before his marriage, I met lots of lovely girlfriends,” Susie said. “Each of them just loved me, which is a bonus.”
She then shared her thoughts on why their marriage fell apart, saying, “You can’t have two stars because you have them competing for the floor space the whole time.”
It didn’t stop there. Susie continued, praising James’s intellectual abilities and personality, adding, “In the past, he’s been extremely popular. I’ve seen at rugby matches where elderly ladies have got very close to him. He needs someone who can see the softness of him, coupled with quite a brilliant intellect. He’s written seven books. Three of them are on The Times best-seller list.”
James and Chloe, the daughter of TV legends Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, called it quits in 2023 but remain committed to co-parenting their three-year-old daughter, Bodhi.
Despite the ongoing tension, James admitted he turned to Chloe for advice before agreeing to film Celebs Go Dating. “I was on the fence, and she encouraged me to go for it. She’s a good friend and my co-parent, and we’re very transparent with each other. I feel lucky to have that kind of trust and support, it makes everything feel collaborative, and it’s a relationship I truly value.”
