Rhian Sugden has been seen for the first time since the shocking announcement of Vernon Kay and Tess Daly’s split, as she ran errands in Manchester yesterday. The news comes 16 years after the infamous ‘sexting scandal’ that rocked Vernon’s career and his marriage to Tess.
Looking casual yet confident, Rhian, 39, wore an oversized white T-shirt and bright red joggers, her long brunette hair tied back. Appearing makeup-free and sporting glasses, she went about her business with her trademark style.
Rhian, now married to Oliver Mellor and mother to two-year-old son George, was thrust into the public eye again due to her past involvement with Vernon. In 2010, Vernon was forced to apologize publicly for sending “saucy messages” to Rhian, which led to a temporary fallout with his wife, Tess. The scandal ultimately did little to derail Vernon’s career, with him continuing to host All Star Family Fortunes after the incident.
Speaking about the scandal years later, Rhian revealed how the affair affected her career. “It ruined everything for me,” she said in a Channel 4 documentary. “He got to give an apology on the radio and just carry on, while I was left to deal with the aftermath.” 
The news of Tess and Vernon’s separation came after a long period of growing apart, with both admitting that they had been living separate lives for some time. A source close to the couple revealed that the decision was mutual, stating, “They acknowledged that they had grown apart and that life would be better if they split.”
Despite the challenges they faced, Rhian’s role in the infamous scandal still haunts her. She reflected, “It still makes me feel sick that he just got away with it. It ruined everything for me.”
As the news unfolds, Rhian seems to have moved on from the past, with her family now her priority. The separation of Vernon and Tess comes after a period of introspection and gradual distance.
