Alan, 50, captured audiences’ hearts when he won the celebrity version of the BBC’s murder-mystery gameshow Celebrity Traitors, filmed at Ardross Castle in the stunning Scottish Highlands. Inspired by that experience, he snapped up Ayton Castle near Berwick-upon-Tweed — a historic B-listed mansion that now serves as the backdrop for his next big project.
Speaking at the 2026 BAFTA Television Awards, Amanda couldn’t hide her excitement: “I can’t wait to see his castle. I have an appointment in Scotland after filming something separately, and I’m really excited.” Fans can expect to see her explore every turret, hallway, and secret corner as cameras follow Alan’s ambitious renovations.
The castle itself is a showstopper. Built around a medieval tower house, Ayton Castle dates back to the 19th century and boasts 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens and parkland, a five-storey Great Tower, and even a miniature railway. Alan plans to transform the sprawling property into a luxury hotel and spa — with every hammer swing, paint stroke, and design decision captured for Disney+.
The documentary is being produced by Expectation TV, the team behind the smash-hit Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime. Industry insiders say the show will mirror Alan’s previous renovation adventures across Italy, Spain, and Greece, blending his cheeky humour with jaw-dropping interiors — and now Amanda Holden will be right in the mix.
Alan, never one to do things by halves, explained his unique “midlife crisis” plans: “Some men buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me — I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamed big, enchanted by the history and romance of a stately home. As I turn 50, I feel it’s time. All I want is a turret to call my own — get me over that drawbridge.”
