Giovanna Fletcher, actress, author, and host of one of the UK’s most popular parenting podcasts, has shared candid insights about the highs and lows of motherhood, her personal journey, and how she has balanced her multifaceted career.
Eleven years ago, Giovanna looked at social media images of other mothers with “smiling faces and pristine sheets” and felt she was failing. Struggling with breastfeeding her newborn son, Buzz, she was weighed down by societal expectations of what a mother should be. “I thought I would be a mix of Mary Poppins and Julie Andrews, but reality was different,” she recalled. Moments of shame came quickly, like using a pacifier despite her earlier vow not to, which she described as stigmatized and isolating.
Fletcher found solace and guidance from friends, including Emma Willis, who reminded her that happiness as a mother is key, and that “a happy mum means a happy baby.” These experiences inspired her debut non-fiction book, Happy Mum, Happy Baby: My Adventures in Motherhood, which topped the Sunday Times bestseller list in 2017, and her wildly successful parenting podcast of the same name, which has run for eight years, with nearly 300 episodes featuring high-profile guests such as Davina McCall, Keira Knightley, and the Princess of Wales.
The podcast tackles topics from birth trauma to maternal mental health, including “mum guilt,” reaching over 30 million downloads. Fletcher emphasizes that both mothers and fathers benefit from listening, as parenting insights are vital for both.
Fletcher has built a versatile career around her family life, publishing nearly 20 books, acting in West End productions such as 2:22: A Ghost Story and The Girl on the Train tour, presenting on CBeebies, and winning the 20th series of I’m a Celebrity…. She is also an ambassador and patron of CoppaFeel!, a charity promoting breast cancer awareness in young women.
Fletcher leads fundraising treks for CoppaFeel!, finding profound meaning after the death of her friend Kristin Hallenga. She has completed challenging walks across varied terrains, including a five-day, 100km trek across the Sahara Desert, fostering camaraderie and personal growth while raising awareness for the cause.

Her parenting philosophy emphasizes giving children freedom to explore, fostering creativity and independence, while balancing the demands of fame and family. She reflects on her childhood in Essex, allowing her own children to have a playful and imaginative upbringing. Fletcher draws on her early experiences with bullying and career pressure to guide her parenting, focusing on building strong connections and open communication with her three boys.
Despite her extensive public profile, Fletcher remains grounded, recognizing there is no perfect way to parent, and continually learning from each experience. Her life and career reflect resilience, passion, and a commitment to both her family and the wider community.
Applications are now open for CoppaFeel!’s 2026 CoppaTrek with Giovanna Fletcher — a chance to participate in meaningful fundraising challenges for breast cancer awareness. For more information and to register, visit
