Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s Chief International Anchor and one of the world’s most respected journalists, has revealed that her cancer has returned for a third time — but her message to viewers was one of strength, hope and determination. :max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/Christiane-Amanpour-1-102325-c2c69207a81743a4a2595aa1f392cfb0.jpg)
The 67-year-old British-Iranian broadcaster shared the update during an appearance on Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story with gynecologic oncologist Dr. Angela George. While speaking openly about her health, Amanpour stressed that her condition is being “very well-managed.”
“I have it again, but it’s being very well-managed,” she said during the interview.
Amanpour first publicly announced her ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2021, later undergoing surgery and chemotherapy as part of her treatment. She explained that she chose to speak out not only because viewers had noticed her absence, but because she wanted to help others facing similar health concerns.
“I wanted to do a service, not just to my viewers, but also to those who might be in a similar situation,” she said.
Her decision to go public came after she took four weeks away from her show, sparking questions and speculation.
“People started to ask questions — where am I, have I been fired, am I alive, dead, whatever?” Amanpour recalled.
The veteran journalist also delivered a powerful warning about paying attention to warning signs. She said quick action played a major role in her treatment journey.
“I went straight to the doctors,” she explained. “The reason I got such quick care was because I listened to my body.”
Her openness has since become an inspiring reminder of the importance of early detection, medical awareness and taking symptoms seriously.
Ovarian cancer can often be difficult to detect in its early stages, but symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, changes in bowel habits and sudden weight changes can sometimes be warning signs.
As Amanpour continues her journey, many are praising her courage — not only for facing another difficult chapter, but for using her platform to encourage others to listen to their bodies and seek help when something feels wrong.
For a journalist who has spent her life telling the world’s stories, this time it is her own honesty and resilience that is moving people around the world.
