Josie Gibson has opened up about a painfully honest moment that made her realise her long-term relationship with her son Reggie’s father, Terry James, had reached its breaking point — and it all came down to one cutting six-word complaint.
The This Morning favourite, 41, reflected on the moment their relationship began to unravel during an appearance on White Wine Question Time, revealing how everyday tensions slowly built into something she could no longer ignore.
At the time, Josie had been preparing for what she hoped would be a perfect first Christmas as a family with baby Reggie. She spent days cooking, organising, and making everything just right — only to feel her efforts were dismissed in an instant.
“I spent four days cooking Christmas dinner, getting it all in and preparing it, and spent four days cleaning up,” she recalled. “And then he said to me: ‘You haven’t even buffed the sides.’”
That seemingly small remark, she explained, was the moment something inside her snapped.
“I said, ‘buff your own b****y sides,’” Josie admitted, describing how frustration finally boiled over after months of pressure and feeling unappreciated.
What followed, she says, confirmed everything she already felt. When she told him they should leave, he packed their belongings into black bags and took them out of the home — a moment she says made the situation feel irreversible.
Josie also reflected on earlier struggles in the relationship, including feeling unsupported during the early months of motherhood, when Terry would sometimes sleep in a campervan rather than stay in the house due to his need for rest, leaving her to handle night feeds alone.
Over time, she says, these moments built into a pattern she could no longer ignore.
“It was a build-up of things,” she shared, explaining that the relationship gradually broke down rather than ending in a single argument.
Despite brief attempts to reconnect during lockdown, the pair eventually went their separate ways in 2021, with Josie choosing to focus fully on raising her son.
Now, she looks back on the relationship with honesty rather than anger, acknowledging how motherhood reshaped her priorities and made her unwilling to settle for anything that didn’t feel equal or supportive.
She has since said that her son Reggie remains her biggest focus, adding that balancing career and parenting simply leaves little room for anything else in her life.
Josie is set to appear on Richard Osman’s House of Games later this evening, continuing her busy run on British television while reflecting on the lessons learned from a very personal chapter of her past.
