Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt has openly discussed the rising financial pressure of parenting in the United States, describing just how quickly the costs of raising a child can escalate during a recent Fox & Friends segment.
The conversation took place on the April 14 episode of the morning show, where hosts examined the growing expense of parenthood across the country.
“It’s expensive to raise a child,” Earhardt said at the start of the discussion, highlighting concerns many American families are currently facing.
The segment then referenced data showing that the cost of raising a child has increased by nearly 30% over the past three years. Earhardt pointed out that, on average, it now costs more than $300,000 to raise a child in the United States.
Her co-host Lawrence Jones added that the financial burden varies significantly depending on location, noting that states such as Hawaii, Maryland, and Massachusetts are among the most expensive, with annual costs reaching $40,342, $36,419, and $34,247 respectively. :max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(998x0:1000x2)/ainsley-earhardt-2-1-2000-1b40963cc2f74a1aa87a615b5c4b1602.jpg)
By contrast, the least expensive states include Mississippi, Alabama, and South Dakota, where yearly costs are significantly lower.
Brian Kilmeade also weighed in humorously, saying, “Keep track. They will pay you back if you just keep that invoice.” :max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(899x0:901x2)/ainsley-earhardt-d62593946a79459dbb69344f6a1ba9e5.jpg)
Earhardt, who shares a daughter with her ex-husband Will Proctor, expanded on the realities of parenting expenses, emphasizing how quickly everyday costs add up.
“Gosh, everything is so expensive,” she said. “When you have a child, you’re no longer buying things for yourself — everything goes to that child. You think about them constantly. It depends on if you’re doing public school or private school, saving for college, clothes, school supplies, backpacks — it all adds up. Sports are expensive too. The uniforms you have to buy for the sports…”
The discussion then shifted toward financial assistance programs for families, with Kilmeade referencing support included in Donald Trump’s proposed “Big Beautiful Bill,” which aims to help parents in the current economic climate.
Earhardt concluded the segment by encouraging viewers to consider opening so-called “Trump Accounts,” tax-advantaged investment accounts designed for children.
“You have to sign up for it,” she said. “It’s free money.”
