Fans of ITV daytime were in for a treat on Friday morning when Lorraine Kelly’s usual 9.30am spot was taken over by none other than Ruth Langsford – and viewers loved it.
The regular host was out of the country, heading to Boston for the 2026 World Cup, leaving Ruth to step in for a one-day takeover. But judging by social media reactions, many viewers are already campaigning for her to host every day.
Ruth shared her excitement on Facebook ahead of the show, teasing: “Up bright and early tomorrow… covering a day on Lorraine! She’s in Boston for the football. Prep done, early night… see you at 9.30!”
The response was immediate. Comments flooded in: “They should put you on every morning Ruth!”, “Yes, we need more of you!”, and “Honestly, she’s perfect for this slot!”
Kicking off the show, Ruth gave viewers a warm welcome: “As you can see, it’s not Lorraine today! I’m delighted to be here while Lorraine cheers on Scotland in Boston. Good luck Scotland!”
Lorraine herself shared an update on Facebook earlier in the week, celebrating her latest book release, The Island Secret, while also catching the Scotland vs Morocco match.
The brief switch comes amid ITV’s recent changes to Lorraine’s show. Following budget cuts, the programme now runs for 30 minutes and airs for 30 weeks of the year – leaving some fans hoping Ruth might fill in more often.
Whether Lorraine’s return will reclaim the hearts of morning viewers, one thing is clear: Ruth Langsford is already making a strong case as a fan-favourite substitute.
