Eamonn Holmes, 66, has shared a heartfelt update on his health after missing the TRIC Awards earlier this week following a stroke in April. The GB News Breakfast presenter, temporarily sidelined from his presenting duties, thanked fans for their unwavering support as he focuses on a full recovery.
Speaking from home, Eamonn said: “I’d dearly wished I could have been at the awards to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who’s sent their kind messages – they really mean the world to me.”
GB News was crowned Best News Programme at the 2026 Television and Radio Industries Club Awards for the fourth year in a row, a milestone Eamonn sadly had to miss. GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said: “Eamonn is a loved member of our family, and we’re supporting him every step of the way.”

The broadcaster’s health challenges have been well-documented. In addition to his recent stroke, Eamonn has previously undergone a double hip replacement, spinal surgery, and treatment for slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. Despite these setbacks, he remains determined to return to the studio, reassuring viewers: “I may be physically struggling, but mentally I’m still very much on the ball.”
Eamonn recently addressed rumours he had been sleeping on air, explaining during a live Q&A event: “I was just checking my mic pack – apparently it looked like I was asleep! Whatever!”
Fans have flooded social media with messages of encouragement, celebrating the news anchor’s resilience and looking forward to his return to GB Breakfast.
