BBC Star Naga Munchetty Opens Up on Debilitating Health Battle: “I Faint, I Throw Up”

BBC Breakfast and 5 Live presenter Naga Munchetty has revealed the shocking extent of her struggle with adenomyosis, a condition where uterus tissue grows into the muscular uterine wall, leaving her in agonising pain.

The 51-year-old broadcaster shared that last month, the pain was so severe she fainted just before going live on air. Naga described the experience as “overwhelming” and warned that symptoms can include fainting, vomiting, and excruciating discomfort.BBC Breakfast Naga suffers mishap as co-star asks 'what's happening' | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV | Express.co.uk

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, she said: “I get really pissed off and really angry. I’m not in pain every minute of the day but when it hits, it’s unbelievable – I’ll be doubled up, I’ll lie on the floor to distract myself from the discomfort. I can pass out. I throw up. Overwhelming would be an understatement.”

Naga has long campaigned for better awareness of women’s health conditions, highlighting how illnesses like adenomyosis and endometriosis are often overlooked. “We’re shouting about this health gap that exists, and it will take years to be heard,” she said.

Despite the challenges, she remains dedicated to her work, balancing live broadcasts six days a week. “Live for me is so much better for my mind,” Naga said. “You have to be sharp, but it keeps me engaged. I love the connection with the audience that live broadcasting brings.”

The presenter has previously shared terrifying moments during flare-ups, including an incident in May 2023 when her husband had to call an ambulance after she screamed in pain for 45 minutes straight.

Naga’s openness is helping to shine a light on a condition that affects thousands of women, encouraging conversation and support around female health.
