Bob Harris Shares Heartwarming Life Update After Emotional BBC Radio 2 Farewell

Legendary broadcaster Bob Harris has given fans a touching glimpse into life after announcing his emotional departure from BBC Radio 2, revealing that even during one of the toughest chapters of his life, he’s finding reasons to smile.
The 80-year-old radio icon recently stepped away from hosting Sounds of the 70s and Radio 2 Country after his ongoing battle with prostate cancer worsened. Earlier this year, Bob shared that the disease had spread to his upper spine, leading him to make what he described as “one of the hardest decisions” of his remarkable career.
Although leaving the station after nearly 56 years in broadcasting was heartbreaking, Bob has now revealed an unexpected silver lining.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a series of cheerful photos with close friends, including BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James, alongside a heartfelt message.

“Having to stop work because of ill health is not what I would have chosen, but the massive positive is the quality time I am now able to spend with lovely friends.”BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris offers update after announcing emotional exit - Manchester Evening News

The post quickly filled with messages of love and support from fellow broadcasters and longtime listeners.
Greg James replied warmly, joking: “Big Bob! We love you. Sorry for taking this photo on a potato.”
Former Radio 2 breakfast presenter Zoe Ball also shared her affection, while Radio 2 traffic reporter Sally Boazman commented that the photos captured “two of the world’s nicest people.”
Bob’s update comes just weeks after he announced he was stepping away from his beloved radio shows to focus on his health. In his farewell message, he thanked listeners for their unwavering loyalty throughout his decades on air, saying they had been the reason he poured everything into every programme.
While his voice may no longer be heard on Sunday afternoons, Bob’s latest update reassured fans that he’s making the most of precious time with family and friends—surrounded by the people who have supported him throughout his extraordinary career.
His heartfelt message has once again reminded listeners why he remains one of Britain’s most loved broadcasting legends, with thousands continuing to send their best wishes as he focuses on his health and the moments that matter most.
