Motherhood has brought endless joy into Dianne Buswell’s life—but it has also made the distance between her and her loved ones feel greater than ever.
The Strictly Come Dancing favourite recently fought back tears while opening up about life as a new mum, revealing that one of her biggest hopes is for baby Bowden, affectionately known as “Bowie,” to grow up surrounded by the love of her family in Australia.
A Heartfelt Conversation That Left Fans Emotional
During a recent YouTube vlog, Dianne was chatting to her baby son when the conversation turned to the relatives waiting for him on the other side of the world.
Holding Bowie in her arms, the professional dancer spoke lovingly about the cousins, aunts, uncles and other family members she hopes he will spend more time with as he grows older.
The emotional moment came after Dianne listened to a touching voice message from one of her nieces, who regularly follows her online updates. She admitted the message almost brought her to tears before smiling at her son and telling him she couldn’t wait for him to make memories with his cousins.
As she imagined family weekends back in Australia, Dianne became visibly emotional, explaining that the thought of watching Bowie play with his relatives was enough to make her cry.
Why Motherhood Has Changed Everything
Although Dianne has built a successful career and life in the UK, she admitted becoming a parent has given her a completely new perspective on family.
The 36-year-old said living thousands of miles away from home feels much harder now because she wants her son to experience the same warmth and close family bonds that shaped her own childhood.
While regular video calls, messages and YouTube vlogs help bridge the distance, she acknowledged that nothing compares to being together in person. Sharing those everyday milestones with loved ones has become more important than ever since welcoming Bowie.
Despite becoming emotional during the vlog, Dianne said she feels grateful that her online videos allow relatives in Australia to watch her little boy grow and remain part of his journey, even from afar.
A Love Story That Led to Parenthood
Dianne and YouTube creator Joe Sugg first met when they were paired together on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.
Their on-screen partnership soon blossomed into a real-life romance, and the couple announced they were expecting their first child in September 2025.
They welcomed Bowie in March this year and have since shared candid glimpses of parenthood with fans, documenting everything from sleepless nights to precious family moments across their YouTube channels.
Back to the Ballroom
While embracing life as a first-time mum, Dianne is also preparing to step back onto one of television’s biggest stages.
The BBC has confirmed that she will return for the 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing, joining fellow professionals including Amy Dowden, Aljaž Škorjanec, Jowita Przystał, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley, Nancy Xu, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Vito Coppola, Carlos Gu, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon.
Several new professional dancers are also expected to join the cast following the departures of Gorka Márquez, Michelle Tsiakkas, Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova and Luba Mushtuk.
As Dianne prepares to balance rehearsals, live performances and motherhood, it’s clear that family remains at the heart of everything she does. Even from thousands of miles away, she’s determined to ensure little Bowie grows up feeling connected to the people who love him most—wherever they may be.
