Matty Healy has officially said “I do” — and his wedding to model and actress Gabbriette Bechtel looked every bit like a scene from old Hollywood.
The 1975 frontman married his partner of nearly three years in a glamorous private ceremony in Los Angeles, surrounded by family, close friends and a star-studded guest list.
But amid the dramatic gown, famous faces and breathtaking Hollywood Hills setting, one particularly touching detail stood out: Matty’s proud mum, Loose Women star Denise Welch, was there to watch her son begin one of the biggest new chapters of his life.
Representatives for the couple confirmed the happy news, saying: “Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel were married yesterday at a private ceremony in Los Angeles, attended by their family and close friends.”
And judging by the first glimpses from their big day, the newlyweds certainly knew how to make their wedding unforgettable.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2)/matt-healy-gabbriette-wedding-071926-113de4c570a149ffb35719f13d1064c6.jpg)
A dramatic first kiss as husband and wife
The celebration reportedly took place at Castillo del Lago, the spectacular Spanish Colonial Revival mansion in the Hollywood Hills once owned by Madonna.
With its glamorous history and striking architecture, the venue provided the perfect backdrop for the couple’s old Hollywood-inspired celebration.
Matty, 37, kept his wedding look timeless in a classic black tuxedo, while 28-year-old Gabbriette made a dramatic entrance in an elaborate white bridal gown.
Her dress featured a voluminous skirt with an embroidered train, a sculpted bodice, sweetheart neckline and statement ruffled long sleeves.
She completed the look with a sweeping cathedral-length veil, perfectly matching the vintage Hollywood glamour of the occasion.
But one of the most memorable moments came when the couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
Matty was seen dramatically dipping his new bride backwards as he kissed her, while a delighted Gabbriette kicked one leg into the air.
The joyful moment captured the playful side of a couple who have never followed the traditional celebrity-romance rulebook.
Denise Welch proudly watches her son marry
Among those celebrating the couple’s marriage was Matty’s mother, actress and Loose Women panellist Denise Welch.
Denise has never hidden how thrilled she is about her son’s relationship with Gabbriette.
Long before the wedding, she had spoken warmly about her future daughter-in-law and made it clear that Gabbriette had been welcomed into the family with open arms.
After the couple announced their engagement, Denise said on Loose Women: “I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I’m thrilled.”
Earlier in 2026, Denise also let slip that the wedding would take place in July while discussing her family on Tom Hirschsprung’s podcast.
“Matty gets married in July, which we’re very excited about,” she said. “I’m very excited about that, that’s wonderful.”
Now, that long-awaited moment has finally arrived.
Denise was joined by other family members as well as a host of famous guests, with singer Charli XCX reportedly among those attending the celebration alongside influencers and figures from the couple’s creative circle.
From a 2023 romance to marriage
Matty and Gabbriette were first romantically linked in September 2023.
Their relationship quickly became serious, and in 2024, Matty proposed.
Gabbriette announced the engagement in typically unconventional style, showing off a striking black engagement ring and joking: “Marrying the 1975 is very Brat.”
The comment perfectly reflected the couple’s playful approach to their relationship — and hinted that their eventual wedding was unlikely to be an ordinary affair.
Ahead of the ceremony, the pair reportedly held a wedding rehearsal at the Los Angeles venue.
They were later spotted leaving in a black Rolls-Royce convertible before continuing celebrations with those closest to them at the legendary Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood.
The relaxed pre-wedding festivities offered a contrast to the grandeur that followed, blending rock ’n’ roll energy with classic Hollywood glamour.
A new chapter for The 1975 frontman
For Matty, the wedding marks a significant personal milestone after years in which his relationships have often attracted intense public attention.
As frontman of The 1975, he has spent much of his adult life under the spotlight, building a reputation as one of British music’s most provocative and unpredictable figures.
His personal life has frequently generated almost as many headlines as his music.
But his relationship with Gabbriette developed into something far more lasting.
The model, musician and actress has carved out her own distinctive career and online following, becoming known for her edgy aesthetic, fashion work and creative projects.
Together, the pair quickly became one of the entertainment world’s most unconventional celebrity couples.
Now, nearly three years after their romance began, they have officially become husband and wife.
Matty and Taylor Swift have both moved on
The wedding also inevitably draws attention to one famous chapter from Matty’s romantic past: his brief relationship with Taylor Swift.
Matty and Taylor had been linked as far back as 2014 before briefly rekindling their connection in 2023.
Their highly publicised romance was short-lived, however, and reportedly ended in June of that year.
Just months later, Matty began dating Gabbriette.
Their relationship followed a very different path — growing from romance to engagement and ultimately marriage.
According to the report, Taylor has also since moved forward with her own life, marrying NFL star Travis Kelce earlier in July in a huge celebration at Madison Square Garden.
The two weddings, taking place within weeks of each other, mark strikingly different new chapters for two stars whose brief relationship once generated enormous attention.
But for Matty, the focus now appears firmly on his future with Gabbriette.
From black engagement ring to white wedding
When Gabbriette first revealed that unusual black engagement ring in 2024, fans knew this was unlikely to become a conventional celebrity wedding.
Two years later, the couple delivered exactly the kind of celebration many might have expected from them: glamorous but unconventional, romantic but theatrical, and filled with unmistakable old Hollywood drama.
From the historic Hollywood Hills mansion and Gabbriette’s cathedral-length veil to Matty’s cinematic first kiss with his bride, every detail appeared designed to make the occasion memorable.
Yet behind all the glamour was a much simpler moment.
A mother watched her son get married.
A couple who began dating in 2023 stood before their closest family and friends and became husband and wife.
And as Matty dipped Gabbriette backwards for that jubilant first kiss, it marked the beginning of an entirely new chapter for one of British music’s most talked-about stars.
