Brit Eady claimed that her estranged husband, Michael Cunningham, financially and emotionally abused her amid their contentious divorce. The star also shared how much Michael allegedly makes each month, as she accused him of engaging in “acts of contempt.”
At the end of last year, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star announced their split in a post she later deleted. The couple had been married for five years at the time. Brit suggested that she and Michael had been living a façade in their marriage.
Recently, Us Weekly obtained divorce docs showing that Brit accused him of “financial and emotional abuse.” In the filed motion in June, Brit also alleged that Michael hadn’t paid their mortgage for their house, or the $2,800 monthly payment for Brit’s car, on time since her divorce filing in January.
According to the documents, Brit is unemployed, while Michael, a developer and investor, makes $30,000 a month.
“[Cunningham] has been the breadwinner during the marriage. [Eady] is completely reliant upon [him] for financial support and maintenance,” said the divorce doc. “[He] is financially abusing [her].”
Brit also alleged that Michael “engaged in acts of contempt” following the divorce filing. According to the star, their home’s mortgage was in Brit’s name, but Michael always took care of the bills.
“[He] has intentionally paid the mortgage late on the residence adversely affecting [Brit’s] credit status … in an attempt to gain leverage in the divorce proceedings pending before the court,” she alleged in the documents, adding that he also stopped paying the $429 monthly payments for her car insurance.
“Prior to marriage, [Eady] was employed; yet due to the adverse credit ratings due to [his] acts, she has been unable to qualify for specific employment opportunities. [He] traditionally paid these expenses during the marriage and was paying these expenses at the time [she] filed for divorce,” said the docs. She also alleged that an automatic standing order was violated, and that he stopped paying fees for the homeowner’s association, as well as utility bills for trash, sewer services, and water.
Michael did not respond to Us Weekly’s request for a comment by the time of publication. Last month, he requested that Eady pay the lawyer fees and court costs for the divorce. The court ordered the couple to go to mediation by the end of July.
Brit first announced the separation in a December 31, 2025 Instagram post.
“I’m posting this on the last day of 365 to remove this facade of faking like this marriage is going to work,” she said at the time, before deleting the post. “Everybody can’t come into the next chapter.”
“I’m done hurting and I want to be happy in my next chapter,” she went on. “Cheers to 2026 of putting my happiness first 🥂 ✌🏽. And, for the record, as much as I can’t stand him, we are not going to create a false narrative that I’m walking away because of any fake made up rumors.”
