Coronation Street is set to bring back Elizabeth Rider, twenty years after her last appearance on the cobbles. Rider, who previously played Ashley Peacock’s mum, is set to return in a new role this summer.
The TV veteran last appeared in the ITV soap in 2006, playing a social worker who was helping Les Battersby-Brown adopt his stepson, Chesney.
She held the role of Kathleen Gutteridge, Ashley’s mother, from August 1999 to October 1999, during which she and Ashley reconciled after she abandoned him at birth.
According to The Sun, Rider will be playing another role this time around, with Corrie bosses expected to confirm it soon.
It’s unsurprising that Rider would be playing a new character, as her on-screen son Ashley, played by Steven Arnold, died on the soap.
Viewers will remember that Ashley died in a tram crash during the show’s 50th-anniversary episode in December 2010.
A recognisable face in British TV, Rider has appeared in all four British soaps with roles in Emmerdale, EastEnders and Hollyoaks.
Rider has also appeared in several well-known television productions, including Call the Midwife, Line of Duty and the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas special, ‘The Time of the Doctor’.
Between 2009 and 2017, she starred in the BBC daytime drama Doctors, where she played recurring character DCI Lynette Driver.
In other Corrie news, the soap recently shared an update on Audrey Roberts’ whereabouts amid Sarah Platt’s murder storyline. Played by Sue Nicholls, Audrey was last seen on screen in November 2025.
In yesterday’s scenes, Sarah was arrested for Theo Silverton’s murder, though fans were treated to a quick update on Audrey just before.
Ahead of Sarah’s arrest, the Platts got together to make a birthday video for Audrey, who is travelling abroad, and it was revealed that Audrey has a new boyfriend.
