Adam Thomas has unveiled a striking physical transformation after losing nearly 19lb — but for the actor, the biggest change goes far beyond what can be seen in the mirror.
The Waterloo Road star has revealed his dramatically leaner physique after months of disciplined training, appearing on the cover of Men’s Fitness following a journey that saw him reduce his body fat from 19.2 per cent to 12.2 per cent.
Yet behind the impressive results lies a far more personal story.
For years, Adam had been dealing with psoriatic arthritis, a condition that caused persistent pain and inflammation and made maintaining the active lifestyle he once enjoyed increasingly difficult.
At its worst, he said the pain could leave him struggling to even get out of bed.
Now, after committing himself to a major fitness goal and finding a treatment approach that helped him better manage his symptoms, Adam says he feels transformed not only physically, but mentally — and believes his family is seeing the greatest benefit of all.
“My family get the best version of me now,” he said.
A challenge that changed everything
Adam’s transformation began with an ambitious decision earlier this year.
In February, the actor set himself the goal of appearing on the cover of a men’s fitness magazine.
It was no small challenge.
After years of struggling with pain, inconsistent training and habits that had gradually slipped, achieving the physique he had always wanted once seemed increasingly out of reach.
But with his symptoms being managed with newly prescribed medication, Adam was able to approach exercise with renewed determination.
He teamed up with Ultimate Performance trainer Steve Chambers and began following a structured programme designed to completely rethink the way he trained.
The results were remarkable.
Adam dropped almost 19lb while reducing his body fat percentage from 19.2 per cent to just 12.2 per cent, revealing a noticeably leaner and more muscular physique.
But the process also forced him to reconsider what he thought he knew about fitness.
“I always thought I was fit and active until I started this transformation,” Adam told Men’s Fitness.
Looking back, he realised that although he had spent years doing cardio and running, his overall training approach had not been as effective as he believed.
The transformation became as much about learning as it was about losing weight.
Years of pain had changed his lifestyle
Adam’s journey carries added significance because of the physical challenges he had faced in the years beforehand.
Living with psoriatic arthritis meant inflammation and pain could affect his ability to exercise consistently.
Over time, training became harder, healthy routines became more difficult to maintain and his overall wellbeing began to suffer.
“I was in constant pain, stopped training properly, wasn’t eating well and wasn’t really looking after myself,” he explained.
The actor also revealed just how debilitating his symptoms could become before beginning injections to help manage the condition.
“There were times before the injections when I literally couldn’t get out of bed. That’s how bad it became.”
For someone accustomed to an active lifestyle, the experience understandably had an impact far beyond the gym.
His new fitness challenge therefore represented something much bigger than simply changing his appearance.
It became an opportunity to regain a sense of control over his health and daily life.
A completely different approach to training
As Adam began working closely with trainer Steve Chambers, he discovered that some of his previous assumptions about exercise needed to change.
Despite considering himself relatively fit, he realised he had not been approaching resistance training in the most effective way.
Rather than relying heavily on cardio, his transformation involved a more structured approach to strength training, nutrition and consistency.
Month by month, the changes became increasingly visible.
His weight dropped, his body composition changed and the physique he had once considered difficult to achieve began taking shape.
But Adam has made clear that the numbers tell only part of the story.
The most meaningful transformation, he says, has been how he feels in everyday life.
“It has made me a better husband, a better dad”
For Adam, reaching the best shape of his life has brought benefits he never expected when he first set himself the magazine-cover challenge.
He says feeling stronger and healthier has changed the energy he brings into his home and relationships.
“Getting into the best shape of my life hasn’t only changed me physically – it has made me a better husband, a better dad and a happier person,” he said.
Then came perhaps the most powerful reflection of his entire journey:
“My family get the best version of me now, and that’s probably the biggest reward of all.”
It is a sentiment that turns what could simply have been another celebrity fitness transformation into something far more personal.
The visible change may be what immediately catches attention, but for Adam, the real achievement appears to be reclaiming a part of himself that years of pain had gradually taken away.
Fans celebrate Adam’s achievement
Adam’s transformation quickly attracted supportive reactions after he revealed the results.
Fans praised his dedication and celebrated the dramatic change, with one supporter declaring they were “so proud” of what he had achieved.
Others described the transformation as “amazing”, while his trainers at Ultimate Performance also congratulated him on reaching his goal of appearing on the magazine cover.
The response reflects just how significant the journey has been.
What began as an ambitious physical challenge ultimately became a story about rebuilding confidence, changing long-standing habits and discovering what his body was capable of after years of difficulty.
Adam may have lost almost 19lb and dramatically reduced his body fat, but the achievement he values most cannot be measured on a scale.
After years in which pain sometimes dictated what he could and could not do, he now feels healthier, happier and more present for the people closest to him.
And for Adam Thomas, that appears to be the transformation that matters most.
