Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy is stepping away from training camp after a tragic incident involving his family.

According to multiple reports, Bieniemy’s wife, Mia Bieniemy, was seriously injured in a shooting at the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday evening. She was transported to a local hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have arrested the couple’s 27-year-old son, who is facing multiple felony charges in connection with the incident.

At the time of the incident, Eric Bieniemy was in St. Joseph, Missouri, with the Chiefs during training camp and was not at the family’s home. The organization later confirmed that he would be away from the team to be with his family and asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation on Monday, saying:

“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family.”

Reid also shared that Mia’s condition being stable was encouraging and emphasized that family comes first. In Bieniemy’s absence, members of the Chiefs’ offensive coaching staff will temporarily assume his responsibilities during training camp.
