Coronation Street favourite Alan Halsall has reportedly called time on his romance with girlfriend Ellie Dolan after just one year together.
The 43-year-old actor, best known to millions of viewers as Tyrone Dobbs on the ITV soap, is said to have quietly split from Ellie, 26, after the couple realised their relationship was not heading in the direction either of them truly wanted.
What had once looked like a fast-moving and affectionate romance now appears to have ended away from the spotlight — and signs on social media suggest the break-up may not have been entirely smooth.
According to The Sun, Alan and Ellie have unfollowed each other online, while the soap star has also removed traces of Ellie from his Instagram profile. For fans who had followed their relationship over the past year, the sudden digital distance has only added to speculation that things ended on a difficult note.
A source close to the former couple claimed that Alan had enjoyed a “whirlwind romance” with Ellie and that the pair initially got on very well. Ellie was also said to have spent time with Alan’s daughter, Sienna, suggesting the relationship had become serious enough to involve family life.
Alan shares 11-year-old Sienna with his former wife and former Coronation Street co-star Lucy-Jo Hudson. The pair were married from 2009 before separating in 2018.
For a time, Alan and Ellie appeared to be building something meaningful. Their children had reportedly met, and friends believed the romance was progressing quickly. But behind the happy photos and public smiles, the couple are said to have discovered that the relationship was not quite what they had hoped for.
The insider claimed that things became serious very quickly before Alan and Ellie began to realise they were very different people.
“They discovered they were opposites,” the source said, adding that the age gap also became a factor in why the romance ultimately failed to last.
Alan and Ellie first met at a luxury hotel and country club where Ellie works and where Alan is understood to be a member. Their connection reportedly developed from there, and last year it was claimed Alan was “smitten” with the glamorous mum-of-two, who is 17 years younger than him.
At the time, their romance seemed to mark a fresh new chapter for the soap star following his previous long-term relationship with actress Tisha Merry. Alan and Tisha, who had also worked together on Coronation Street, split after five years together.
Now, Alan appears to be single once again after another private relationship came to an end.
The reported split will no doubt come as a surprise to fans who believed the couple were going from strength to strength. Their relationship had seemed warm, close and family-focused, especially after reports that their children had spent time together.
