Anne Hegerty Breaks Silence on Doctor’s Warning After Dramatic Weight Loss — And Why She’s Holding Back on One Suggestion

Anne Hegerty has spoken candidly about a recent conversation with her doctor after fans noticed her unexpected two-stone weight loss — revealing she’s been given a medical warning, but is choosing to proceed carefully.

The Chase star, best known as The Governess, confirmed she has lost around 30lbs in recent years, though insists the change hasn’t been the result of any strict diet plan or intentional weight-loss regime.

“I’m Not Doing Anything Deliberately”

Speaking honestly about her health, the 67-year-old explained that while she hasn’t actively tried to lose weight, she has become more aware of her body and daily habits.

“I’m not doing anything deliberately,” she said.
“Except I did think to myself that I needed to get more active, because I really don’t want much and I should do more of that.”

She also admitted she’s been encouraged to focus on mobility and strength rather than the number on the scales.

“I need to do more stretches,” Anne added.
“I’ve got no core strength, and I think actually that may be a good idea.”

In an interview with Yours Magazine, Anne revealed that her GP recently raised concerns about prediabetes, a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet at diabetic levels.

Her doctor suggested medication that could help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes — including drugs such as Ozempic — but Anne made it clear she hasn’t rushed into any decision.

“My doctor said to me about me being prediabetic and suggested something like Ozempic,” she explained.
“I told him I’d think about it — but I’m only thinking about it.”

She added that the recommendation was intended to help her “stave off diabetes”, stressing that the issue is being monitored rather than ignored.

“I think I’m OK,” Anne said.
“But I’ll bear it in mind.”

A Journey That Began in the Jungle

Anne’s weight loss is believed to have started during her appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2018, where she famously survived on restricted rations in the Australian jungle.

Reports at the time suggested she lost a stone in just three weeks — and the change has continued steadily ever since.

Speaking on The Jeremy Vine Show in 2019, Anne previously described herself as “not unhealthy” but admitted she wanted to feel fitter rather than thinner.

More recently, Anne offered a typically blunt and humorous insight into how her lifestyle has changed since finding financial stability.

Talking to Bella Magazine, she joked that having money has actually altered her relationship with food.

“I do find I’m not as hungry these days — it’s to do with being rich,” she laughed.
“It’s brilliant. I love being rich!”

She explained that feeling secure has removed the anxiety that once drove her eating habits.

“It just means I have this sense of security,” she said.
“Do I need to eat this? Am I hungry right now? I might be hungry later, so let’s put it aside.”

Anne, who has previously spoken about claiming benefits before landing her role on The Chase, admitted she felt far hungrier during periods of financial struggle.

“When you’re struggling financially, you feel hungrier,” she said.
“That’s why poor people eat more — and they eat fattening stuff.”

Staying Grounded, Staying Cautious

While fans have flooded social media with concern and support, Anne has made it clear she’s not panicking — and not blindly following trends.

Instead, she says she’s listening to medical advice, staying aware of her body, and doing what feels right for her own wellbeing.

It’s a refreshingly honest update — one that many viewers have praised for its realism, balance, and refusal to dramatise what is ultimately a manageable health flag.
