Baby Surprise & A Chaotic Dash to the Hospital: Katy Tur and Tony Dokoupil Welcome Daughter Eloise in Heartwarming New Chapter

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur and CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil are celebrating a joyful new addition to their family after welcoming their second child together — a baby girl named Eloise Judy Bear Dokoupil. MSNBC's Katy Tur and CBS News'Tony Dokoupil welcome baby

The couple shared details of the memorable day their daughter arrived, revealing that the journey to the delivery room was anything but smooth.

Eloise joins big brother Theodore, affectionately known as “Teddy,” who is now 1 year old, and she will also grow up alongside Dokoupil’s two children from a previous marriage. MSNBC's Katy Tur and CBS News'Tony Dokoupil welcome baby

Recalling the start of labor, Tur and Dokoupil told PEOPLE that the first contractions began the night before after Katy had eaten a bowl of spicy noodles.

“The contractions started the night before after a bowl of spicy noodles,” the couple explained. Despite Katy insisting labor had begun in the early morning hours, Tony reportedly remained convinced that the discomfort was simply the result of takeout food. Katy Tur – Babe by Hatch

According to the pair, the situation only became real when Katy headed to the car without him and began honking the horn.

“When mom got in the car without dad and started laying on the horn, dad finally came running outside — forgetting half the things they needed for the hospital,” they joked.

Once they arrived at the hospital, Katy was determined to receive an epidural as quickly as possible.

The couple humorously recalled that she bent over and informed the first person she saw that she wanted pain relief immediately.

“That person may or may not have worked there,” they joked.

Meanwhile, Tony attempted to remind his wife that just one day earlier she had said she did not want an epidural.

His efforts were not particularly successful.

As labor intensified, Katy quickly pointed out that the previous day she had not actually been in labor. When Tony tried to make his case again, a nurse reportedly stepped in and suggested he stop arguing if he hoped to make it home safely.

After nearly 24 hours of labor, baby Eloise finally arrived.

The newborn weighed 6 pounds, had strawberry-blonde hair and, according to her proud parents, has rarely been quiet since entering the world.

“She fit right in immediately,” the couple said.

They added that Teddy instantly fell in love with his baby sister and could not wait to introduce her to his older siblings.

“All of us are looking forward to a crowded and noisy house this summer,” they shared.

The arrival of Eloise follows the couple’s pregnancy announcement earlier this year.

A source close to the family previously confirmed the pregnancy to PEOPLE in January, revealing that Tur and Dokoupil — who married in October 2017 — had hoped to expand their family.

According to the insider, the couple felt fortunate to learn they were expecting late last summer.

At the time, the source revealed that Tur was doing well overall despite some typical pregnancy symptoms.

“Katy was craving dill pickle potato chips and loved drinking ice cream sodas in bed,” the source said.

The new baby also brings back memories of Tur’s candid discussions about motherhood and parental leave after the birth of Teddy.

Five months after welcoming her son, Tur spoke openly about her experience returning to work and the importance of paid parental leave.

During a segment called One More Thing on her first day back from maternity leave in September 2019, she reflected on the challenges she faced after Teddy’s birth, including an unplanned C-section, difficulties with breastfeeding and extreme exhaustion.

Tur revealed that while recovering in the hospital, she became so sleep-deprived that she experienced vivid hallucinations.

She later recalled feeling as though she was trapped inside a waking dream, believing her mother-in-law was hiding beneath the bed and imagining a tall man standing over her speaking German.

Thinking the nurses would understand and perhaps laugh at the situation, she shared the experience with them.

Instead, hospital staff reportedly called in an entire psychiatric team to evaluate her.

“Plot twist: I was and still am completely sane,” she later joked.

Before the birth of Eloise, Tur announced she would be taking another leave from her MSNBC program, joking that she wanted to avoid giving birth live on television.

She also expressed gratitude for having access to paid maternity leave, emphasizing how important that time was for both recovery and bonding with her child.

Meanwhile, Dokoupil is also expected to take parental leave from CBS Mornings.

During his absence, Vlad Duthiers and Enrique Acevedo will help host the program’s first hour, while Drew Barrymore, LeVar Burton, Jon Batiste and Ashley Graham are scheduled to appear as guest hosts for the second hour over the coming weeks.

With baby Eloise now safely home, the Dokoupil-Tur household is preparing for a lively new chapter — one filled with sleepless nights, growing family memories and plenty of joyful chaos.
