Tension behind the scenes at BBC Breakfast is said to be simmering once again — after Naga Munchetty was accused of taking a pointed swipe at co-host Sally Nugent over her newly unveiled glamorous makeover.
Sally, 54, recently debuted a glossy new look on Instagram, instantly drawing praise from fans and fellow TV stars. But according to sources, the transformation did not go down well with everyone backstage.
‘We’re Journalists — Not This Morning’
Insiders claim Naga, 51, made a cutting remark suggesting Sally’s polished appearance made her look more suited to rival daytime show This Morning rather than the BBC’s flagship news programme.
According to reports, Naga allegedly quipped:
“We’re meant to be serious journalists, not trying to look like we’re presenting This Morning!”
The comment is said to have “ruffled feathers” among staff — particularly given the ongoing scrutiny surrounding workplace culture on the programme.
‘A Nasty Little Moment’
A source told reporters that while things had been “fairly quiet” in recent months, the remark landed badly.
“Sally’s glow-up looks fantastic,” the insider said. “But as often happens in showbiz, it caused a stir. There were a few comments made — and Naga’s was the sharpest. It was a nasty little moment at a time when tensions were already high.”
The alleged dig comes amid a formal workplace culture review, launched after a series of complaints about behaviour on the show. Previous claims involving Naga — all denied — ranged from sharp exchanges with junior staff to complaints about food and on-set interactions.
Praise for Sally — Silence From the BBC
Sally’s makeover, styled by Calum Tierney, was met with instant applause online. Celebrities including Helen Skelton, Nadiya Bychkova and Michelle Ackerley flooded the comments with praise, calling her “gorgeous” and “beautiful.”
Meanwhile, the BBC has declined to comment on individual staff matters, reiterating its standard position when approached for clarification.
Naga, who has fronted the programme for over a decade, typically presents alongside Charlie Stayt later in the week, while Sally anchors the show with Jon Sen earlier on.
A Studio Under Strain?
One source previously claimed Naga has not been taken off air but is now being closely monitored in her interactions — with restrictions reportedly placed on who she can speak to on set.
“It’s far from ideal,” the insider said. “Everyone just wants it resolved.”
As viewers continue to see a calm, professional front each morning, it seems the real drama at BBC Breakfast may be unfolding long before the cameras roll.
