Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has reached a major milestone in her battle with breast cancer, sharing an emotional health update after completing her final radiotherapy session.
The 69-year-old actress, best known for playing the unforgettable Liz McDonald, revealed she is feeling hopeful as she looks ahead to the next stage of her recovery.
An Emotional Moment After 10 Radiotherapy Sessions
In a heartfelt video shared with fans, Beverley announced that she had officially finished her course of radiotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.
Smiling with relief, she said:
“I’ve done it. I’ve just finished my last radiotherapy session—fingers crossed.”
She explained that she had completed 10 treatment sessions, while acknowledging that many cancer patients face much longer treatment journeys.
“That was number 10 for me, and lots of people have to have lots more—I know that. But for now, that’s finished, so hopefully… I don’t know for sure, but hopefully I won’t need any more.”
Her husband, Jon McEwan, who was filming the video, encouraged her with a gentle reminder:
“Positive thinking, darling.”
Beverley smiled and agreed, embracing the optimism as she celebrated reaching such an important milestone.
“I Feel A Bit Numb”
Although relieved to have completed treatment, Beverley admitted the emotional impact of the past few months has been overwhelming.
She confessed that the previous day had been particularly difficult.
“To be honest, I feel a bit numb.”
“Yesterday I really struggled, but today I’ve been fine.”
The actress also revealed that while radiotherapy has now ended, her medical journey is far from over.
She is scheduled to meet with her consultant again in two months, when she will undergo further assessments, including mammograms and follow-up appointments with oncology specialists.
“I’ve got to see the professor again in two months and then I’ll know a lot more—mammograms and oncologists and all that—but radiotherapy is finished for now, so I’m really thrilled.”
A Quiet Celebration At Home
Rather than planning a big celebration, Beverley said she simply wanted to enjoy a peaceful evening after everything she has been through.
“I’m not going to celebrate tonight. We’re too tired—we can’t be bothered.”
Instead, she revealed her perfect way to mark the occasion:
“I’m going to put scruffy clothes on and just sit and watch TV with a cup of tea.”
It was a simple but deeply relatable moment that resonated with many fans following her journey.
Looking Ahead With Hope
Alongside her video, Beverley reflected on reaching the end of this chapter.
“And that’s a wrap on radiotherapy! Ten sessions over and done with!”
She added that although more hospital appointments still lie ahead, she is grateful to have completed this stage of treatment.
“Lots more appointments down the line, but for now… I’m so happy for it to be over!”
