In a devastating turn of events, Brookside star Bryan Murray, 76, has been moved into full-time care as he battles Alzheimer’s disease. Known for his role as the notorious Trevor Jordache in the iconic Channel 4 soap, the Irish actor’s health has drastically declined since his 2019 diagnosis, with his wife Una opening up about the tough decision she had to make.
Speaking at Alzheimer’s Tea Day 2026, Una shared her heartache: “Over the past year, Bryan’s needs became far greater, and he has now moved into full-time care. Up until now, my day was consumed with caring for him, and now I have time to miss him.” It’s a heartbreaking admission from a woman who has been at her husband’s side throughout this challenging journey.
Bryan’s memorable portrayal of Trevor Jordache—a villainous character buried under a patio in one of TV’s most shocking storylines—has left an indelible mark on viewers. But now, this once vibrant star is battling a cruel disease that has robbed him of the man he once was.
Despite his health struggles, Bryan continued to appear in Fair City until last year, when he quietly retired from his 20-year role. Tragically, he no longer even remembers his final exit from the show.
Una, who also starred as his on-screen wife in Fair City, reflected on the decision to retire him from the role: “I knew the time was right when he started to feel stressed. The bosses respected my choice, and I’m thankful they allowed us to end things on a peaceful note.”
As Bryan’s condition worsens, his beloved wife urges others to join them in supporting Alzheimer’s awareness. She invites people to participate in the Alzheimer’s Tea Day, a small but significant way to make a difference.
Bryan’s heartbreaking condition follows just months after another Brookside legend, Marian Diamond, passed away at the age of 89. Marian’s death was a painful reminder of the impact that Brookside and its stars continue to have on viewers, even as they face their own personal struggles.
In a world where TV drama often seems far removed from reality, the struggles of these beloved actors have brought their personal battles to the forefront.
To support Bryan and Una, and to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s, join them this May for the Alzheimer’s Tea Day. Bryan and I would love for you to participate in any way you can, says Una.
