Emmerdale star Charley Webb has opened up about the devastating moment she said her final goodbye to her mum, who tragically passed away on Mother’s Day. The actress, best known for portraying Debbie Dingle on the ITV soap, shared an emotional tribute to her late mother following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
In an intimate Instagram post, Charley revealed that she had spent private moments with her mum in the chapel of rest, a choice that felt important despite its emotional toll. Charley wrote, “I went to see my mum today in the chapel of rest. It was much harder than I thought it would be. Saying goodbye nearly broke me, but I’m so relieved I did it.”
Her mum, Helen, had struggled with Alzheimer’s for 12 long years, and Charley, alongside her soap star brother Jamie Lomas, was left heartbroken when her passing was confirmed. Jamie had previously shared the painful journey of caring for their mother, who had no longer remembered her name in the later stages of her illness.
In a powerful social media post, Jamie expressed his sorrow: “We lost our beautiful mum on Mother’s Day. After battling Alzheimer’s for 12 years, she decided it was time to leave us. Anyone who’s experienced this illness knows it’s like losing them twice—once to the disease, and again when they pass. You were the first to love me, Mum. We love you, and we will miss you so much.”
Charley has been supported by her close friend Sheridan Smith during this difficult time, sharing moments of comfort on Instagram with photos of her “little team” looking after her.
The Dingle family is used to heartbreak, but Charley’s raw emotional journey will resonate with fans and remind everyone of the deep, sometimes painful connections we share with our loved ones.
