Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw has shared a sweet reunion with fellow Weatherfield favourite Sally Ann Matthews. The pair, who have both exited the soap, reconnected this week over a “glorious” lunch.
Shaw appeared on the cobbles from 1995-2003, where she played Maxine Peacock before her character was shockingly murdered by serial killer Richard Hillman. Meanwhile, Matthews played Jenny Bradley on and off from 1986 until her exit last year.
Though the pair didn’t cross paths during their respective times on the soap, they met while working on various theatre productions across the years and formed a lasting bond. Taking to Instagram, Shaw shared a glimpse at their recent get-together, proving that they’re still close.
“Never stopped laughing #sallyannmatthews. Meet for an hr. Brunch led to lunch. 3 hrs of glorious laughter. Homemade ginger biscuits, and sunflowers , I was spoilt,” she captioned the post. “We met on tour years ago and we haven’t stopped laughing since. Love you Sal.”
The post also featured a collection of images of the special reunion, including a selfie of the friends smiling, plus the aforementioned biscuits, flowers and stunning brunch venue.
The comment section was filled with positive messages for the duo, with their Corrie co-stars Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) and Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor) sharing their love.
The pair’s heartwarming reunion comes after Shaw shared her breast cancer diagnosis in April, via a poignant Instagram video. The star began preparing for the “journey”, explaining her extensive treatment plan.
“I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Originally I was going to be having surgery in two weeks, but because my results have come back that I am HER2 positive, it means I have to have chemo for five months,” she said.
“Then [there is] hopefully surgery to have lumps removed and take the nymph glands out so they can do some more tests. And possibly more surgery before radiotherapy.”
Last month, Shaw revealed the “next phase” of her journey as she shaved her head, after previously cutting and donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust. She has continued updating fans on her health while raising awareness about the illness.
