Love’s young dream becomes a nightmare in Coronation Street when Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) is rushed into hospital and her teenage sweetheart Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) gets the blame. That’s when Dylan makes a huge accusation that’s about to change everything…
Dylan and Betsy are two teens bonded by trauma.
She’s just a simple Weatherfield lass who survived being accidentally shot by her own mum Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers), witnessed the surprise return from the grave of her other, more unhinged mum Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), and discovered Theo Silverton’s freshly murdered body.
He’s just a simple Weatherfield lad, the sperm donor baby of legendary shade-throwing Rovers’ barman Sean Tully (Antony Cotton), who bullied his former friend Liam Connor and fell in with a gang, which resulted in six months in a secure training facility for carrying a knife, where he fell in with fellow teen tearaway Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey).
The two star crossed lovers were bonded by the horrific stabbing of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), Betsy’s first boyfriend and the ringleader in the gang of ne’er-do-wells that Dylan found himself mixed up with.
However, the pair have stuck with each other thick and thin. And despite the fact that Betsy impending move to London to study fashion, the twoare determined to make things work long distance.
Of course it was only a matter of time before things went spectacularly wrong, as Coronation Street has revealed that the future has something truly terrible in store for Betsy.
Next week’s trip to the Cobbles will see poor Betsy rushed to hospital in the back of an ambulance, after Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) found her unconscious on the kitchen floor. As a fraught Lisa and At Betsy’s bedside, a nurse explains to a tearful Lisa that they are taking Betsy for an MRI Scan.
But that’s just the start of the drama. When Dylan arrives to see Betsy, she suffers some kind of fit. It’s every parents’ worst nightmare for Carla and Lisa, and it only gets worse when Betsy wakes up, muddling her words and struggling to speak.
Like any good boyfriend, Dylan arrives at the hospital with a bag of treats… only to be stunned to realise that Lisa believes he is to blame for Betsy’s medical crisis. So hellbent is Lisa on holding Dylan responsible that she even reports him to the police.
This pushes Dylan to a decision that will blow up his friendship and possibly his relationship.
Dylan is upset when Lauren (Cait Fitton) tells him that Betsy is in a bad way and doesn’t want to see him. A shocked Fiz (Jennie McApline) tells Sean that she has just seen two police officers arrest Dylan at the precinct. Unaware that Lauren told Dylan to stay away, Betsy is stunned to discover Lisa has reported him to the police.
Word has already spread when Sean and Dylan go into The Rovers, and Lauren refuses to serve them. That’s when Dylan throws someone else under the bus for Betsy’s shock collapse – his best friend. Dylan says that he believes Brody was responsible for what happened to Betsy.
