Eamonn Holmes, 66, has hit back at claims that he was âfalling asleepâ live on air during his GB News broadcast earlier this month, insisting the allegations are completely unfounded.
The veteran presenter disappeared from the breakfast show just days after viewers expressed concern over his slurred speech and what appeared to be a moment of napping while on set. Fans were left worrying after the incident, but Eamonn is setting the record straight, leaving many wondering what really happened.
In a candid response during his appearance at Hayley Palmer’s An Audience With… at London’s Hippodrome Casino, Eamonn laughed off the accusations, saying: “I was just looking down at my mic pack to see why it wasnât working. We donât have floor managers or camera operators.” He added, “Apparently, I was sleeping? Whatever!”
But the drama didnât end there. Eamonn, who has faced various health struggles in recent years, recently shared a heartbreaking update about his ongoing battle with his health. He opened up about dealing with ageism in the TV industry and his experience living with a wheelchair after undergoing major surgeries in the past few years. Eamonnâs candidness about his struggles is sure to stir emotional reactions from his fans.
In a podcast appearance on Scott Wrightâs Session7, Eamonn talked about the daily difficulties he faces, including being dependent on carers. “Iâm sick, Iâm in a wheelchair… thatâs been horrendous to deal with for two years,â he said. “Society’s ageist… TV doesnât want to know you now that Iâm older.”
Despite everything, Eamonn remains positive, sharing that once heâs seated, he can do everything he loves in his job and feels in control. However, he noted that, for many, it can be hard to deal with someone who requires help. âOnce Iâm sitting down, I can do everything,â he shared.
He also touched on the challenges of being disabled in everyday life, sharing his frustration with the limited seating options in public places like cinemas. “When youâre disabled, itâs unbelievable how society… whether itâs a theatre, a restaurant, or a cinema,” Eamonn explained. “You either get the very back or the very front, and you think, why is this?”
Eamonn’s heartfelt comments have sparked a wider conversation about ageism and the treatment of those with disabilities in the media and society at large.
As one of the most well-known TV personalities, Eamonn Holmes has been a household name for decades, presenting shows like GMTV, Open Air, and co-hosting This Morning with his ex-wife Ruth Langsford until 2021. Despite his ongoing struggles, Eamonn’s determination and honesty continue to resonate with his loyal fans.
