Eamonn Holmes has bravely shared the painful truth about his ongoing health battle, revealing that he now relies on carers to help him with basic tasks, including getting out of bed. The 66-year-old veteran TV presenter opened up on his condition during an emotional appearance on the Session 7 podcast, where he shared the impact of his debilitating injury.

In 2021, Eamonn’s health took a dramatic downturn after dislocating his pelvis, which resulted in three slipped discs. As he was recovering from surgery, he faced another setback when he fell at his former marital home with ex-wife Ruth Langsford, resulting in a broken shoulder.

“I’m Sick… I’m in a Wheelchair”

Now largely immobile and reliant on a wheelchair, Eamonn has revealed the harsh reality of his daily struggles. “I’m sick. I’m in a wheelchair. That’s been horrendous to deal with for two years,” he confessed.

The former This Morning host continued to share the depth of his struggles, explaining how the pain and limited mobility have affected not only his career but also his mental well-being. “I can’t get up. I’ve had carers throughout the day,” he added. Despite this, he finds a silver lining in that, once seated, he is able to manage most things independently.

Toughest Stage of His Life

In a previous interview with The Sunday World, Eamonn described his condition as being the “toughest stage of my life ever,” and shared that he is undergoing experimental treatments. “I have to be tested with spinal injections to see if they will take and then grow some life back into my spine and legs. It’s all very experimental,” he said.

Eamonn’s health challenges have left a significant mark on him, but he continues to fight through the pain. “I just battle on,” he said, showing the resilience that has defined his career.

Ruth Langsford’s Emotional Journey

Meanwhile, Eamonn’s ex-wife, Ruth Langsford, has spoken publicly about the emotional toll their separation has taken on her. The couple, who share son Jack, parted ways in May 2024 after 14 years of marriage. Ruth, who has been open about her struggles since the split, revealed that she sought therapy to help her cope. “It’s the best thing I ever did,” she said, reflecting on the support she received from a counsellor.

The Loose Women presenter continued, “I went to therapy to help me see the bigger picture, to help me think in different ways about things. A counsellor doesn’t tell you what to do—they just guide you.” Ruth also shared an important piece of advice her counsellor gave her: “Find your light.” Ruth explained how she was encouraged to channel her emotions of anger and sadness into positive energy.

The Road to Recovery for Eamonn

Eamonn’s health journey has not been an easy one, and his transparency about the challenges he’s facing has resonated deeply with fans. His message of strength, despite overwhelming pain, is a testament to the courage required to confront life’s hardest battles.

Even as Eamonn continues his recovery, his message remains clear: “Your health really is your wealth.” He acknowledges the struggles of living with a disability, saying society often finds it hard to “deal with” people who face physical challenges. But his determination to persevere, with the help of his carers and loved ones, is an inspiration to others going through similar struggles.

A Family’s Support Through the Struggles

Throughout this difficult time, Eamonn has been supported by his family. His friends and colleagues have also rallied around him, offering encouragement as he works through his recovery. With his ex-wife Ruth and their son Jack, Eamonn is surrounded by love, despite the hardship.
