The couple, who share two adult children, described the split as a painful but mutual decision following considerable reflection, sharing statements on Instagram. Both emphasized their continued commitment to their family and expressed hope to remain friends despite the end of their marriage.

Forbes, 62, wrote:

“It is with a deep sadness and a very heavy and sore heart that I have to announce that after over 25 years together, Melanie and I are going our separate ways. I wish Melanie only love and happiness and hope she finds it. It has been a very difficult decision for both of us. Sorry to family members and close friends who are finding out this way. X.”

Melanie, 57, added:

“Some time ago, Forbes and I made the decision to go our separate ways. We have been waiting for the right time to share this sad news. Forbes and I created two beautiful humans who we will forever love, cherish, support, and nurture. They are now young adults who understand and accept our decision and remain secure in our love for them. Although our relationship has ended, our friendship will remain. We will always be family.”

Forbes is widely known for his role as teacher Rod Morris in EastEnders, a character involved in one of the BBC soap’s most controversial storylines, as well as for co-creating and co-writing the Scottish comedy series The High Life with Alan Cumming.

Away from the Albert Square spotlight, Forbes appeared in the sixth series of The Crown, portraying photographer Duncan Muir — earning praise for his performance in the acclaimed Netflix series that chronicled the later years of the British royal family.

Melanie gained recognition on The X Factor, placed in the over-28s category, and became the second finalist to leave the competition. Since then, she has built a successful career as a session singer and musical theatre performer, working with artists such as Stereophonics, Kasabian, and Fatboy Slim, while securing multiple West End credits.

Despite their split, the couple stressed that their children remain their priority, and their intention to maintain a supportive family bond endures. 💔
